JH-7/JH-7A/JH-7B Thread

The advantage of J-16 over JH-7X isn't that the former is more agile when laden, it's that J-16 is a larger aircraft that can carry more stuff, further.

And when it isn't performing strike missions, it can serve as a respectable air defence/air superiority fighter.

With J-16 in service there is no reason to continue with JH-7 production. Existing airframes should of course receive cost-effective upgrades.

I agree. Putting any more $ in upgrading JH7 is just silly unless for whatever reason Xian is hemorrhaging money and needs to be afloat however with the Y20 coming online and that Xian is a sub of AVIC I don't think that is the reason.

JH-7A/B is good enough for most operation.... and very effective and respected bomber. Obviously J-16 is a much better bomber but also much more expensive

J-16 as SU-30MKK versatile, JH-7 for bombing and anti-ships missions mainly employed for it by Navy, few capable for A2A combat as a Tornado, Su-24, F-111 true fighters-bombers for interdiction ... radar oriented for detect ground/surface targets with a short range in A2A mode, only 2 IR AAMs and less agile for dogfight.

Let me rephrase.. invest $ to have new models of JH7 is a waste. Upgrades on legacy ones are always a necessity to stay current. Sorry that was what I meant.

Once there are enough J-16s to replace the JH7s they then need to be phase out. By then J16s would be relatively dated themselves.

..According to a message issued by the US Pacific fleet, United States Navy "Carl Vinson" nuclear-powered aircraft carrier will set out from San Diego around January 5. Of interest to China is whether "Carl Vinson" will come to South China Sea.............

An impressive image showing several 9. Naval Division JH-7A and esp. the latest YJ-83KH variant.
IMO most notably is that rarely seen twin-EW-pod configuration. IMO it is almost the first image...

JH-7A + YJ-83KH - 1.jpg

It is surely similar to the one used by PLAAF JH-7A for the KD-88 but I've never seen two pods so far and it is not a targeting pod.

Any info ?
