Can we please leave out all reports potsed by militarywatchmagazine.com??

They report rumours as facts, they mix certain things and get others still wrong ... IMO it is one of the most unreliable sites: Last time they reported Chengdu HAS developed a twin-seater version of the J-20 and as proof they used a years-old photoshopped image and a few months ago they claimed the PLAAF WILL unveil the new H-20 during the parade in 2019, then the mixing of YJ-12 and other AShMs.

Not cheaper, according to the Indian Defence Ministry. Last year, the ministry appointed a committee to look into the costing of military platforms, especially the military jets in our case. According to what was announced, Tejas Mk1A variant is more expensive with a price tag of ₹463 crore than a locally produced Su-30MKI with a price tag of about ₹400 crore.

    Worthy of note:
    - If Ministry to procure Su-30MKI's from Russia, the unit cost drops to about ₹330 crore for each aircraft.
-The deal concerning locally produced F-16's would cost about ₹380 crore for each aircraft.
-Sorry for the off-topic addition. Felt it was necessary to mention in case of Malaysia's possible choice.

We need to create a list for unreliable sources like Minnie Chan, David Axe, Alex Lockie, etc. and sticky it.

    Back to topic.

David Axe is a little amateurish and has some biases but I don't think he deserves an "unreliable" ban.

His new revamped podcast is actually getting pretty good now, he has a former SF guy hosting it with him now and has better guests.

In fact, his podcast episode on the India-Pakistan conflict recently was probably the best analysis so far I've heard or read. I'll post a link to it in the other thread.

    Excuse me but that’s insane!

    Near J10C price for a JF-17 equivalent?

    Who is pocketing the money?

Actually it's possible. As Tejas is still being done in very small batches, small numbers, with development and honing of the design ongoing. The same way any plane starts off with 100% price when in inital production and then gets down to 50% of less within a few years of production, when larger numbers are produced.

    Someone with the surname "Ambani".

Jokes aside, you don't need corruption to explain this, just highly inefficient production. It's not like India's swimming in a pool of aerospace engineers and other technical talent - the ones there can command top dollar. Also, India doesn't produce the tooling and plant required to manufacture aircraft, so foreign suppliers can exact usurious prices.

I dont know man... that's a price rise of over 450% between the Mk1 and the Mk1-A. Sounds like a disaster to me.

It depends on a lot of factors. Is that just the marginal per unit production price or does it include development costs?
The latest Tejas variants use composite materials and other things like that. Which should make their price a lot higher.

The JF-17 has a much more conservative design. It also has a much better designed airframe I think.

According to the article, it's the per unit cost.
