This is brilliant and really the centre piece of the Block III
This is a huge development and I so glad PAF opted for Chinese equipment
Do you realise how long it would take for a Western supplier to supply a ASEA radar of same capability if not less ? You are looking at 3-5 years if you want a custom built one for JF17, could be why Vixen ASEA was dropped in favour of KLJ-7A
With ASEA comes HMD, HOBS AAM and even IRST?
This allows B3 to operate under a heavy jamming environment and makes intercepting the Thunder more difficult

Now Block III will be KLJ-7A ASEA
Btw if it's under going testing there is no way we will see Block III in 2017 maybe even 2018 most likely it's 2019

What annoys me is that people keep posting these screenshots instead of just the video. So that we can get more context of what is happening.

KLJ-7A is definitely not China's first officially-revealed AESA. You are leaving out the AESA radars on the J-10C, J-11D, J-16, J-20, and various AEW&C platforms, which have all been publicized.

Advanced radar boosts FC-1 Xiaolong’s combat capacity
The show first reported the light active phased array radar used to improve the FC-1 Xiaolong fighter jet. The radar can track multiple batches of maneuvering targets over more than 100 kilometers.
Although CCTV did not disclose the model of the radar, according to the information previously disclosed at the Zhuhai Air Show, this type of airborne radar should be KLJ-7A active phased array fire control radar with a detection range of about 170 kilometers. It is based on KLJ-7 model with active phased array technology.
An anonymous military expert said that with the active phased array technology, the detection range of FC-1 Xiaolong has reached or even exceeded that of the J-11B heavy fighter jet which uses flat-panel crack antenna pulse doppler radar.
The anti-jamming performance and the anti-reconnaissance performance of the new radar are much better compared with that of the mechanical scanning radar on the third-generation fighter jet.
The new radar has similar performance with F-35 strike fighter's radar. FC-1 Xiaolong fighter jet with the new radar may have a certain extent of advantage at mid-range confrontation with the F-16C / D fighting falcon (not equipped with active phased array radar) and even the basic F-15C / D heavy eagle fighter.

It's great that AESA can be manufactured to fit the JF-17 and also showing they can manufacture this with reasonable costs for such a budget minded fighter. I don't think any of us can be sure about its capabilities though. Certainly shouldn't compare it to the performance of F-35's radar.

Why not? Legit question; is the F-35's radar performance known and much superior? Otherwise, never intimidate yourself into thinking that you cannot beat your rival's best, even a brand name. That's what Chinese innovation is all about.
I'm more concerned about whether this tech will be trickled back to make a larger, more powerful version to be upgraded into J-11A/B.
I think the new small radar is a trickle down exercise from bigger projects. They need to make this radar very economical. Many western AESA radar units are already more expensive than all of JF-17 alone. To produce an AESA like this is already quite a feat.
I'm not saying it can't be better than F-35's radar. Just that we can't be sure it DEFINITELY is better in response to the claim that it is. There's no real obstacle to China developing MUCH better radars and sensors that exist in the West. To be sure that China isn't capable of this is as foolish as saying China has already done so. Let's just say this is a commendable effort and demonstrates that Chinese engineers probably are quite capable of designing and building AESA radars to suit various sizes and engine power outputs. I'm looking forward to PLA and branches receiving the next generation of sensors like photonics based radars and whatever they may be working on. Observing China and developments in the last two decades is exciting. It's good to see so many young people with confidence in their country and what they can achieve. Let's hope the trend continues. Before this, no one else in the world gave two shits about China and commented on China despite the level of authoritarianism and abuses of human rights being actually bad. Now that China has progressed to a certain level, we hear so much criticism around the world (mostly from the established "leaders") about issues that Chinese people have made tremendous efforts in improving e.g. human rights (far cry from how bad it used to be), every indicator of living standards, pollution (every single metric shows tremendous improvement and adoption of better policies and technologies to alleviate). To me this demonstrates their bitterness and their inability in comprehending how a system different to their's can ever find any success (western exceptionalism). So they must find every single way to make shit up and badmouth us or use hyperbole about every negative aspect while completely ignoring or playing away every positive aspect. It must be said this is not all of the West as if it's some absolute entity. PRC wouldn't be where it is without some assistance and benevolence from the West and smaller factions within the West.
Most bitterness actually comes from Russians and countries that view themselves as the "next in line" China overtaking them is even more offensive hahahaha. We'll let the wallow in their own misery.

Well, nobody said it's better or definitely better than F-35's radar. The article says they are similar in performance and for the books, I do not know if I fully believe them or not because I lack too much background knowledge on the topic. Then you said it doesn't compare so I was wondering if you knew the F-35's radar specs to be greatly superior to the listed specs of this radar. I'm not familiar with radar performance or how much is declassified so I was asking. Seems you didn't mean that either. I read too much into your statement then. No harm
