Any news on the Nigeria deal?
I read a Vietnamese website criticize the JF-17 sales that whenever PAF is about to grab a customer, something bad always happens. It raises an example that Sri Lanka was almost a sure customer but before the deal was signed Sri Lanka received a letter from India criticizing the JF-17, and the deal vanished into thin air. I'm afraid not yet a foreign customer until now.

Are they trying to imply that India is exerting political pressure?

@plawolf

At 90 million dollars a pop---the F16 is not the best deal---because pakistan cannot buy the total package---ie the aesa radar---the aim9X missiles or the aim 120D( the latest version ).
Plus the fear of sanctions looming. No anti ship missiles no ALCM's.

Now on top of that---there are about 200 obsolete aircraft in the arsenal of the paf---and the JF17's are not being built fast enough to fill in the hole.

Even the Paf was not ready for this kind of growing pains for a new aircraft---they never expected the integration to be this hard---.

And all these pakistani members here harping up on me---had no clue what integration was till I told them about 8---10 years ago---and they were then beating me up pretty hard on that for awhile.

According to these super stu-ds over here---it would take the Paf a year or so to sort thing out---and that was some 8-10 years ago---.

Non pakistanis don't understand---that there is a God in heavens---and then below is the Paf.

There is nobody who has taken the Paf to task---over its failures. It is a taboo subject to talk about anything negative.

The Paf---if had its game plan right---should have accepted the chinese offer of 18 J10B's last year.

It would have lit a fire in washington and they would have done everything to sell the F16's to Pakistan.

But the Paf screwed up the deal---by bad mouthing the capabilities of the J10B's---that it was not upto par and the F16 was the best thing around.

And that was sheer stupidity on the part of the Paf air chief marshall Sohail Aman---.

He never understood the american mindset of deal making---he did not see the temperature in washington against pakistan---he threatened the U S---and he bad mouthed the ally's product---the J10---all a recipe for disaster.

He did not know and understand that by getting the J10B's---he would have removed the control that the U S had over pakistan regarding the F16's. pakistan would have broken the shackles and would be free---.

And even if the J10B did not perform upto par---so what's the big deal---no one knew about that---so why spill the beans---just roll with the punches---.

Yes ... as this will be an off-topic post therefore I will try to concise my post as much as possible, if you want detail plz tag me in any of the relevant thread I will clear any doubts in this regards.

Now about this new F-16 episode

1- The first thing you need to know that this time it was not PAF who requested for F-16, in fact its the USA (President OBAMA himself) who offer F-16 during the visit of our PM to USA & the reasons where more of political nature in context of Afghanistan than anything related to defence co-operation b/w the two countries

2- We in recent past forfeited our option to purchase 18 new F-16 blk-52+ for which we had the approval from congress, it is because of this reason USA offered to finance it (initially it was supposed to be fully financed deal but than finalized as partially financed deal) but as Congress didn't approve the deal as it was agreed b/w OBAMA Administration & Pakistan though they approved the sales of F-16 to Pakistan; we chose to forfeit this time again.

3- For this deal PAF committed only $ 250 (more or less) for 8 F-16 blk-52, which mean approximately $ 31 million each, in other words we tried to bring the price of F-16 near to the price range of JF-17, so plz remember it as a rule of thumb OUR NATIONAL FUNDS ARE COMMITTED FOR JF-17 so no new purchase before 150th JF-17 come out from the factory.

4- PAF will only buy used F-16 which come so cheap (our last purchase for old F-16s from Jordan costed only $ 5.6 million per jet) to replace old F-7 squadron & to build up the fleet in short span of time, in addition to new JF-17s.

5- Again no F-16 was purchased form USA funds in past ....
