But no one is dying from military conflict or exchange of gun fire down in the SCS, unlike in Iraq where Operation Winning Hearts and Minds seems to be giving the local people more instability and violence that they wish Saddam was alive and back in power. So yeah...there is a MAJOR difference. Beside, China just wants her land back and no post WW2 status quo can "rule of law" could deny that.

Let's don't mix apples and oranges; there's great powers doing as they can, and then there's effect of their actions. The original conversation centered on the former, and from that context, my claim is China will pursue what it perceives as its national interests, just like US and other great powers in history. That is all, and I made no moral arguments for or against their actions.

Your logic is definitely not historical that I can tell.
They did, and they lost it to Mexico, in a frigging war. And Mexico in turn lost it again with Texas declaring its own dependence.
I think you're barking up the wrong tree here, nothing to compare here.

In July 2015, the U.S. Navy awarded Bell-Boeing–Bell Helicopters and Boeing formed a business partnership to develop and produce the V-22—the contract to supply the first five V-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft to the JSDF via the Pentagon’s foreign military sales program. It was the V-22’s first international sale. Japan first announced its intention to procure the Osprey aircraft in November 2014.

The V-22 tilt-rotor aircraft “is a hybrid between a conventional helicopter and turboprop plane with both vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) and short takeoff and landing (STOL) capability. It outperforms traditional helicopters in terms of speed and range,” I explained in May 2016 (See:

A number of V-22s will be stationed aboard the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force’s new 19,5000-ton helicopter carrier Izumo. For me not centirc same but eventually only 16 cell's in VLS, last ingos they going normaly for 32 but no sure right now.
25 DD class first in service in 2019, right now i have 2 ordered, build by Mitsubishi, Nagasaki as 3 Akizuki on 4.

If Japanese members can say but curious " only 4 " Akizuki build* and now a new less expensive seems but in fact in more if he get VLS with 32 cell's exactly to 99 % same ship, AEGIS like, same size, same armament, helo only difference design frion island with the 4 AESA radars on Akizuki 2 forward on a structure in more ugly.

Also now with last Hatsuyuki and Asagiri in service Japanese Navy need much new DDG, 13...
with a Fleet of 43 DDG/DD/Helo Carrier which get a service life of years need 1.5/year and from 2006 have received " only " 9 not sufficient for replace one by one older.

New are more expensive, capable also Japan can afford ?

Last things Akizuki or Takanami the lasts are very good for ASW clearly better as Chinese by ex coz they have SH-60J/K much more capable than little Z-9C or older Ka-27/28 in more all have VL ASROC and in number about 50 % of the cell's.

Japanese dudes :) why also fast a new class also similar ?
