Hard to get enough of the pics of the Reagan and the Izumo together, accompanied by an Akizuki DDG.

Will the Akizuki class be capable of firing the XASM-3? Or with that just be the BMD capable Kongo and Atago DDGs?

For the moment XASM-3 is an air launched missile which will be launched by F-2 and possibly the P-1.
Oh...I see.

Good enough then.

I expect them the the SM-3 will be the ship launched missile of choise and that will definitely be on the AEGIS vessels.

Does the Akizuki have the capability of the SM-3? My understanding was that they were going to basically be ESSM launchers in protectin of the AEGIS vessels who use up some of their cells for SM-3 and the like.

The FCS-3A does not have BMD capabilities since it utilizes C band which is higher in frequency and lower range then the S band.

Yes, I know the Akizukis are capable of SM-2 and SM-6, but are they carrying any in their standard load? I wonder what the mix is?

I believe a ship-launched variety of the XASM-3 would be a neat thing. I look forward to hearing more about it.

Again antiterror the 1.2 billion is not the unit price its the package price. That means not just the aircraft, but the support system. Spare parts, contractors to fix and maintain and train repair shops, software development, communications integration, construction of a drone control center, training of drone operators, and control center maintence personal. That 400 million per unit means 1/4 for the drone 3/4s for the support infrastructure.

where did you get that "1/4 for the drone and 3/4 for support" ?
It seems to me RQ-4 Global Hawk is really expensive stuff, the unit cost is over $222M each, so with profit make sense close to $400M ... I would say (estimate) 3/4 for the drone ($300M) and 1/4 for support ($100M)
