... I would love to see this chick in the wind tunnel with some blue smoke.

I'm sure that we're all sure that CAC must have had all the tunnel tests captured on tapes or hard drives since day one! Some day in the future, we may see some of these video clips somewhere on the Internet or on some thing like Discovery Channel or the Chinese version of it...

I'm sure you're right, and I'm sure we're not the only ones interested , there should be lots of footage of the F-31? or whatever somewhere and that might give us some clues, it would be Kool to take the red and blue smoke and do some high AOA testing and introduce those colors in differerent places to see exactly what is what. One thought that I have heard voiced about the J-20 canards is that the downward deflection produces vortices that energize or attach to the upper surface of the main wing, so there is also that possibility, as well as the forward fuselage producing lift to off-set the Mach Tuck tendencies? Its all good, and the more we understand about this configuration, the more relevant our observations become.

When people say that stealth shaping isn't everything, they also mean that stealth lies in the fine details. One story goes about how an F117 developed a huge RCS out of nowhere, and when the technicians had figured out what was wrong, it was because one of the rivets was jutting out of the airframe. This kind of fine precision is something that the Chinese have historically had problems with.

You mean like how China's first lunar satellite Changhe-1 required little to no course corrections on its journey there because China's calculations were so precise?

Journalist Ted Koppel has been for the last several years been trying to get permission to do a documentary on the Chinese military but they have yet given him permission and access. And that was when he was working for the Discovery Channel. He's not working there anymore so I have no idea if he's still pursuing it.

it will be interesting if perhaps eventually China will be the first to deploy naval stealth fighters, not the US...I simply do see this possibility since both J-20 and J-31 are just that close already

Don't you see F-35C is a stealth fighter? Or maybe X-47B is more closed to flat top than J-31, if it is classified as a fighter.

US Marine is forming up their first F-35 squadron, however if the marine aviators stand up to their traditional persistence that they are not navy aviators but marine aviators, then the claim to first "navy" stealth squadron is still open.

Sorry but that could be at best a joke :p ... even if the F-35C will surely need some time to mature it is years ahead of any operational Chinese fighter at all and even more of a carrier-borne one.

It reminds me of a post a Russian member posted in an other forum regarding the RuAF will be the first to deploy an operation fifth generation fighter, since (in his opinion) the F-22 (which is falling out of the sky even without being shot down by his allmightly T-50) can only be regarded a prototype !!!!

I would love one of those models. Anyone know where can I get something like that from and how much they would cost?
