im talking about the J-20 right engine top part curve more down than the left one
Better you show us how you measured with the picture marked. I did what you just said, considering one pixel off can lead to 0.5 degrees off, there is no difference in my measurement.

Most importantly, aircraft can not be designed asymmetrical because that leads to imbalanced airflow, that is a disaster for an aircraft to remain airborne. It is a non-stater.

Normally designers avoid asymetric conditions, but some flight test of engines have mixed multi bladed turbines for example with turbo fans, so while some assymetry of the intake ducting might actually occur? in this particular case it appears that the J-20 does NOT have a gun, in fact the J-20 may never have an internal gun....

What would the merit of having a gun on it be??

If China has to use J-20s as A-10s, something must have gone very wrong in the command chain.

Guns are nearly useless in air to air where the J-20 is designed to dominate. When was the last time a gun scored a kill against a fighter jet?

Putting a gun on a strike version of the J-20 might be reasonable, but in this version, it would be dead weight.

Documentary on J-20s during the National Day parade.

Key takeaways:

1. Since the parade took place during October, a key risk are migratory birds that frequent Beijing airspace. There were three bird collisions during the training process but luckily none of them caused serious damage to the plane.
2. Heavy air traffic around Beijing makes training very challenging.
3. One of the J-20 pilots was born in 1985 but has already accumulated 2000 hours of flight time. Assuming that he entered PLAAF at an age of 24, he would've flown around 200 hours a year.
4. The same pilot piloted the J-10C and J-16 at two prior parades.
5. During the parade, there were two back up planes for every J-20 within the five-plane formation; one of them was in the air and the other grounded. This means that a total of fifteen J-20s participated in the National Day celebrations. Assuming that they didn't withdraw planes from combat units for the air show, there should be at a minimum of twenty J-20s in service.

Hi,

Thought I would never read that---. Thank you.

A gun is a dead weight on modern 5th gen aircraft and also on the 4th / 4.5 gen aircraft---.

How are you going to use it---and against what---?

Guns proved useful in Iraq against armored vehicles.

Elsewhere? Not so much.

If there is a gun where someone pointed out the bulge and port was, it’s only real function would be so that the J-20 can use it in movies

In the world of 5th gen vs 5th gens, detection ranges and BVRAAM missile kill probabilities will both plummet, perhaps to the point where the majority of kills end up coming in WVR.

Despite recent rumours, we only have evidence of 2 IRAAMs on the J20, and the same for F22s.

Having a gun gives you that much more flexibility and combat staying power. When faced with missile-less Raptors, a J20 would have to bug out after it expended it’s missiles as well, whereas with guns, they can stay on station to fight on equal footing.

Considering the J20 would have had the F22 firmly in mind during its design phase, it’s hard to credit it not having a gun, or at least the provision to quickly add one.
