A much better film, note the high G right turn, rolling nearly 180 degrees into a hard left high G pull, that does give your inner ear a workout, but that is a very quick and fluid roll, dishes it out a little, all at about 37 minutes.. a great flying display, lots of eye candy

Didn't see any afterburner throughout but I could be wrong. Hardly any obvious canard deflection either. All planes are lightened for shows so J-20 should be no different. But I think they made a point to show the non-afterburner and low deflection agility. No idea about performance in supersonic and trans-sonic speeds but if previous pilot remarks are true and accurate, this machine is designed more for those speeds which is to be expected since optimising a fighter for low speed fights is a bit behind the times and honestly useless in missile fights. WS-15 should offer J-20 insane performance. CAC please build more factories for J-20 assembly! You guys seem to have built a real winner considering the relative infancy of the Chinese aerospace industry. Those turns on such dialed back effort should thrash SAC flanker products in the realm they supposedly have dominance in; agility + maneuverability with high payload and range.

as an aside, I noticed in a few photos of J-20s taken in the more recent displays either today or yesterday, at least one of the J-20s seem to have a functional chin EOIRST whereas in the first display I think they all had "mock up" EOIRSTs.

I actually wonder if the "mock up" EOIRSTs might have been some sort of cover over the EOIRSTs because it looks like they take up slightly more volume than the functional EOIRST housings, but I can't say for certain.

They're not stand-in mockups but rather plastic covers.

Yeah, that's what I've gradually come around to thinking as well.

I do wonder what the purpose of covers are for, and how they manage to secure it over the EOIRST in flight. The pictures don't really seem to show any position for screws or attachment points

Of course they are not mockups. Yang Wei confirmed in an interview that they were combat units currently in service.
