Indians claim the Su-30MKI's PESA radar detected J-20 over Tibet.

A) how do they know they derected J-20 and not J-10 escorts that also partake in air training?

B) how can a common PESA radar detected J-20? China has plenty of AESA and PESA radars which it tested against J-20 that's more advanced than Su-30MKI radar and J-20 passed those test.

C) was J-20 carrying fuel tanks or other hardware externally during peaceful training?

Therefore, I believe Indians claim they spotted a J-20 when in reality they had detected a J-10.

Again, how would they know what they detected?

That was discussed already in length ... IMO highly unlikely since so far no J-20A was deployed to Tibet, the only one close was in Sept. 2016 a prototype for high-altitude testing at Daocheng-Yading and it was equipped with Luneburg lenses.

We also decided that political considerations are probably at work. Given that India is rumored to have dropped out of the FGFA program and the Rafale deal is either dead or years away, the IAF needs to assure the general public that available fighters are good enough to do the job.

Sorry for bringing it up again, I am late to the party. And Western media regurgitated fake news recently without fact checking. It's frustrating to say the least.

Hi siegecrossbow just a Q when it is possible for a PESA or AESA to detect a stealth aircraft at earliest
As I have a thought Indians might be flying near the border somewhere sometime and as per my question
They detect it
I know I might be asking something which can not or can happen
Your reply will be appreciated
Thank you

There are too many variables depending on the radar, weather conditions, the aircraft's angle of approach, etc. There is no way of knowing.
