This aircraft was developed in the 1980s and 1990s . It flew in twice in 2000 after a long development cycle. A 22 minute flight in February, and an 18 minute flight in April. it never flew again to my knowledge.

It was a technology demonstrator that originally started around the time of the US ATF program in the 1980s. It is old news and is not slated to ever become operational.

Some people feel that the J-20 was based on it...not the other way around.

But I believe the J-20 is a wholly indigenous Chinese design.

And the Mig 1.44 is sort of like the left over prototypes of the XF-23. Great to look at...nostalgic for those who are enthusiasts...but not ever going to be made production.
Jeff, the article does not say that Russia is developing the 1.44 but it says that MiG is working on another light stealth fighter based on the 1.44.

Excellent observations each of you, and I see each of your points very clearly, the kind of thinking out loud and musings that Sino Defense members are able to do without offending or being offended by the "illuminati", those musings are the source of so much inspiration, where even if you don't agree these thoughts get your own "creative juices" flowing. Well gents, hopefully for master Deino, 2016 gets "rolled out" soon, Deino I'm praying that you get your wish soon buddy, like me you may be suffering from "withdrawal"?

I was responding more to the poster than the article.

But as to Russian claims...I will wait and see something actually rolled out before I believe it.

We constantly hear about new stealth bombers, new ultra-destroyers, a new ultra-carrier, etc. and have for years. But nothing has ever been produced. I believe the same will prove true for this new stealth fighter.

Now, they have actually built a Yasen SSN, a Admiral Gorshkov FFG, the PAK-FA prototypes, and the Boerei SSBN. Those are things they have some proof in the pudding for...but even those, the things they have produced recently, which are excellent designs, are being produced at a glacial pace.

Until the economic equation changes substantially...I put little credence in other such reports until, as I say, I actually see one.

As to the Mig 1.44, I believe everything I posted is accurate in any case.

If they produce a new aircraft based on it...bully for them. I just do not see it happening in the near future.

Time will tell.

Maybe the Chinese military is too cheap to produce another one until all the systems are tested.

It looks like a J20 :)

(please delete if this doesn't belong here, but I posted cause the plane looks like the J20)
Maybe the Russians have see how well the J20 platform looks and have have decided to restart their 1.44 program
The article you point to itself points to an article in Sputnik. You should have referred to the Sputnik article. And, of course, while the aircraft mentioned resembles J-20 in that it also has canards, it is described as a light weight fighter and really doesn't belong in this thread.

YEE HAA! Great Balls of Fire! I hear "Highway to the Danger Zone!" playing in the back-ground?

looks like he has a little "forward stick" in there as he passes through inverted?? can some one find a pic of this event with the canards visible, I would love to see their deflection, I anticipate that they are also deflected downward to hold the nose up as the aircraft passes through the inverted position??

oh, and thank you by78, outstanding pictures showing our sweet little Chinese Chick inverted, very pretty, and as I have stated before, she appears to fly "very well"?

likely a great deal better than the little Mig 1.44, which supposedly had less than an hour of recorded flight time??? as I have repeated Dr. Songs assertion, that this is a very difficult configurations to "harmonize" in the FCS, as the FCS has to be talking to both ends, and that relationship changes as the airspeed and angle of attack change???? woo hoo!
