To admit I'm a bit surprised - maybe even worried - why we haven't seen any new bird so far. It's now already half a year gone in 2015 .... so if they again want to have 4 J-20's flying this year too, they have to hurry up a bit.

Just a hint: between Monday - Friday (6.-10. July) I'm again out .... ;)

I'm actually glad that the program has gone back underground in a sense. Indicates, to me, that some real data analysis and next phase preparation are going on. The next time we see this bird, there'll surely be some details that will have been worth the wait!

In my experience I would suggest that many times programs withdraw from public view when things are not going as predicted, but in this case, it sadly seems that China seems to be pulling back into the shadows as a whole. That can't be good for China, nor the rest of the world.

This project was announced amid much fan-fare during the US Sec Def' Bob Gates visit to China. So it seems rather odd to have a black-out after so much favorable publicity?

I do think we will likely see 3 to 4 new birds begin flying fairly shortly?

I think we should be clear, the J20 has not gone "dark" or "underground".

The J20 has always been a top secret project, all China did do was indulge us enthusiasts a little by only half-heartily enforcing its photography bans around sensitive military installations for a while.

All they are doing now is returning things to their long-term trend states.

Remember how incredibly hard it was to get even a tiny blurry photo of a J10 prototype back in the day at this exact location?

All military projects require a certain degree of secrecy, the J20 is no different.

YES, YES, YES ... even if I don't like it, I have to agree.

Anyway I'm at least a bit surprised that now already half the year 2015 is over and not a single new airframe has been unveiled ... and even if otherwise "back to normal secrecy" a maiden flight would not have gone by unnoticed.

But why does everyone think there needs to be a "2016"? Can't they simply switch to production at this stage?

Surely but I think in comparison to other similar high-rated programs between prototypes and serials there are usually more pre-serials than only four.

Anyway here are new images of the new production facilities build at CAC often related to the J-20-program.

And by the way, NO, it's not a Star-Destroyer under construction .... (I hope David Axe does not find this image).

One more thing to add regarding the secrecy. The Chinese and Americans/Westerners/Russians are different in mindset and philosophy. In Chinese mind, Secrecy, ambiguity and making the opponent to wonder is deterrence. Chinese only show "I have" and leave the opponent to wonder "how good it is, what to do with it, making the opponent to over-stretch by over-estimate her capability, or under-prepared by under-estimate, while closely observing opponent's move, "I know you but you don't know me". While Americans/Westerners/Russians are on the other side of spectrum, showing or even exaggerating (no negative meaning here) is detergent, the line goes like this "You have a pistol, I have a machine gun...". That's how cold-war arm race happened. China is never going to do that. Though one can argue about the advantage or disadvantage of the difference, the difference is the fact. So, regardless how other state teases, or how we in SD begs, Chinese government will only let outsiders see when she feels the need.
