I'm not sure if you can compare the cockpit position in these two photos. We can't tell whether the two pilots sit with similar posture. Yes, the F-22 pilot looks to be sitting higher. However, he seems to be looking to his right and looking up. If he accompanies these movements with a slight tilting of his body to the right and up, his right side will look to be positioned higher (and his left shoulder down), making him look to be sitting higher up. On the other hand, the J-20 pilot is sitting straight and still with some of his shoulder shown. Now, if you imagine the J-20 pilot adopting the same posture as the F-22 pilot, looking up to his right and tilting his body slightly up, he will show more of his shoulder just as the F-22 pilot.

We also don't know about the height of the pilots. Not saying which cockpit is better, just saying that these two photos might not be good examples to compare...

These photos may also not be perfect, but both pilots seem to be sitting with similar posture, sitting straight up, looking down playing with their equipment in front of them. Both show all of their upper arms, positioned at similar angle to the cockpit.

Relative to the front body of the aircraft the f22 pilot certainly sits higher. There is not doubt about it. All you have to do is to compare the pilot to the nosecone or rest of the plane forward of the cockpit.
The instrument panel and also the HUD also appears to be higher on the j20 then it is on the raptor relative to the pilots LOS.

How do you use the nosecone for comparison? We know they are different in size. We also have no idea of the sizes of the instrument panels. We need a reference point, which we know should be same in size on both planes.

Someone good with graphics can find images of the planes next to a car or something. We know the diameter of the tires of a 4-door sedan should be the same everywhere.

Easy.. take the pilot out of the equation and use two fix points. In this case the HUD and the tip of nose cone (minus the pitot). by using those two fix points you can tell the the raptor has a much better forward view as it's much lower on the raptor than it is on the J20 and the nose is also shorter. The seat is also higher on the F22 relative to the forward section.

The highest point of the raptor's canopy is also somewhat align with the pilot's head whereas on the J20 the highest point of the canopy is forward of the pilot's head

Ask Tom nicely if he would do some illustrations for the J-20's wikipedia page. :D

I'm almost sure I will refuse ... he's working as a professional artist and author !

And since so far no-one answered here to this one:

Just a guess .... what unit will be the first to get the new J-20A ???

Will it be the same 170. Brigade within the FTTC ?? .. or another unit?

What do You think?

Deino

we were just playing around a bit ;) ... so another teaser for our new book ! :p:D
