Question, do they no

Question, do the navy aviator normally fly their naval jet with the hook dangling like that?

I think these new images are showing planes practicing for the parade (evident by the new colorful paint scheme), where they probably want to clearly show to the audience that this is the cool carrier J-15, not some regular Flankers. The J-15's in regular exercises always have their hooks up tucked neatly between the stings.

Well....they could just look for the canards to know its J-15 as none of the flankers China have besides J-15 have canards (plus hooks are much harder to spot)... ;)

But for average Joe/Jane's who can't even tell the difference between a fighter and a bomber (my wife once thought the B2 was the new USAF stealth fighter:p:eek:), asking them to notice the canards is a tall task. The hook, on the other hand, is a unique symbol of the CV ops, which everyone can recognize... I believe those videos showing the J-15's landing on the CV-16 were viral for a long time.

And also, most people won't be watching the parade on-site, but on TV. As the photos shows, they can zoom in and focus on the hooks. And people will notice it. I am certain the commentators will also emphasize the hook as well.

Master vesicles is of course correct, (yes, he is a research scientist), so master ultra they are "sporting" their hooks for show and tell? the only reason you would ever see the hook down and the gear up, is if the gear has malfunctioned, look for the U-tube video of the Aus F-111 Aardvark landing gear up with the hook down to grab the emergency cable, it does slow and stabilize the aircraft , oh and they made a perfect gear up landing by the way.
