Anybody has the latest pic of J15? I don't know what "improved J15" is this Indian website talking about. First posted by Ron Humble at CDF

It's talking about that blurry photo from last year of a J-15 mock up supposedly with a nose attachment for catapult launch.

Anyway this article is not very interesting nor should we use it as confirmation or proof of anything, because it is one of those "official" articles that sources foreign media to generate news.

In other words, it's basically a puff piece. Sometimes official media comes up with good revelations about the military, but this article is not one of them.

When Chinese website uses Indian or any other foreign website as their source, it's probably not a good idea to trust them until we can find that foreign website it is referring to.

I've always thought it is pronounced tan as this word means 'to flick in a spring like way'. dan IMO is for projectiles or missiles but not really appropriate for referring to aircrafts.

I agree with no name. The word in this context should be "tan2" since it is used to describe a catapult, which pushes something out using a spring-like fashion.

Woops! That was embarrassing. This is what happens when you post while half-asleep and not bothering to fact-check...

Anyways, the J-15's future as a CATOBAR fighter has been hinted at, if not outright confirmed. Would its role be more like the US F-14, as the two fighters have similar sizes, as opposed to the smaller F/A-18?

Digression: Checked with parents. Both agree that "tán" is used when referring to catapults. There goes my credibility...
Hearing "play the piano!" so many times may have been a factor.

Well the piano does have springs in them
So does guitar and instruments that you play by flicking fingers would use this word, but not violin type instruments, which is referred to as being 'pulled'

Yes, I know how different instruments have different verbs associated with them, but my only experience with the word "弹" had been in reference to either pianos or bombs...

But hey, you learn something new every day! That is why I took a liking to this forum.

Could that article be referring to the photo from end of last year, where we all saw a J-15 test frame with what looks like a front landing gear redesigned for catapult takeoff?

I think you are right. I believe that this is just a rehash of occurrences we talked about here on SD some time ago.

These "new" reports do not include any new pictures from what I have seen.
