I seriously doubt liaoning will have a 50 yr lifespan unless you count right from the start when her keel was laid down in the mid 80s.
I agree.

They will use her for enough time to allow them to bridge the gap to the larger carriers. I predict the following rough schedule

CV-16, STOBAR 2012-2030
CV-17, STOBAR 2019-2032
Type 002(1) Conventional CATOBAR 2022-2050
Type 002 (2) Conventional CATOBAR 2024-2052
Type 003 (1) Nuclear CATOBAR 2026-2076
Type 003 (2) Nuclear Catobar 2028-2078
Type 003 (3) Nuclear Catobar 2030-2080
Type 003 (4) Nuclear Catobar 2032-2082
Type 004 (1) Nuclear Catobar Improved 2050-on
Type 004 (2) Nuclear Catobar Improved 2052-on

This way CV-16 and CV-17 get them through the production of six CATOBAR carriers, which they then maintain from then on, perhaps replacing the initial conventional carriers early as they produce an improved nuclear CATOBAR carrier in mid-century sometime.

Perhaps in the 2030s liaoning will finally be a casino or a musuem. Hehehehe! But whatever happens I think she will have a very long life post retirement. Being the first, I don't think she will be scrap based due largely to sentimental reasons. Let's hope not anyway!

Agreed. They will probably make their own museum ship out of her...or they may wait until their first true indegenous build, CVC-17. we'll just have to wait and see...or our kids.
