Doesn't China still have like hundreds of Russian engines sitting around. If so, no sense it letting it sit around just because we have our own engines.

That's a active J-10C with a WS-10B engine. Yet, we are still seeing new planes at Chengdu with AL-31FN III. What's going on ?

No, that's one of the last two batch 01 J-10B assigned to the FTTC. It's not an operational frontline "C".

No ... not really !

We all know that all so far manufactured J-10B and C are using the AL-31FN Series 3 ... all but the last two (1-54 & 1-55) Batch 01 aircraft.

As such, nothing too much special ... only that I still have no confirmed J-10C with serials and the J-10Bs are not clearly visible.

That's strange... did their stock of AL-31FN S-3 engines run out before the batch was complete?

Why ??? ... only since they decided to equip two J-10Bs with WS-10B ??
Then all Batch 02 aircraft should also use the WS-10B but they are still using the FN.

That raises even more questions. Why did they build two J-10Bs with WS-10s while every other plane in their batch and in the next batch have AL-31FNs? If they wanted to test the performance of WS-10Bs, why did they do it on production aircraft as opposed to the J-10B prototypes?

Hi,

This is the new fuel tank for the Gripen NG---it is not like the conventional fuel tanks---but rather rectangular---which means that i can hold more fuek than the round tank of equal length and equal width .

I think that is what the chinese need to look into for the J10's and the JF17's fuel tanks.

These tanks can carry around 75--100 litres more fuel in each tank or maybe more.

Interesting. A 1m x 1m square has 21.46% area than a 1m circle. Yes, assuming the same length a square cross-section tank will hold about 20% more fuel. ... ... simplistic estimate.

Is space even the limiting factor here? The F-16's largest drop tanks are 600-gallon (~1800kg) ones under the wings, I really can't imagine a plane in the same class can carry much heavier load on one hardpoint.
