My grasp of the Chinese language is as good as yours; from several rumors, the radar has 1152 T/R channels and is considered a "1.5 generation" radar within Chinese military parlance.
An ASEA radar with more than 1000 T/R units is quite a feat. There are few countries outside of the US to have achieve that. We will have to wait for some official confirmation untill then this is just speculation.

So guys, does anyone have a confirmation on what type of engine the J-10B serial production models are outfitted with? Is it the AL-31 or the WS-10B?

Hmm ... if this is indeed a recent image, then it is a pity, since we know this bird in exactly the same status already since November 11 last year.

Yes, confirmed by several sources - esp. the Russian engine manufacture itself - they are using AL-31FN Series III !

Hmm...not sure how I feel about this. On one hand, the upgraded Al-31 is rather reliable and relatively new but its not domestic...

Well to be fair, the WS-10 has been successfully installed on the J-10A/J-11A and J-11B series as well as some of the J-16s...


No ... no J-10A so far ever flew with that engine, only J-10B prototype no. 1035, the same with the J-11A ... they are all AL-31F-powered.

For the J-11B series - sans the first production block - and all J-16s You are correct.

Huh, interesting, so the WS-10 engine seems to be attuned to the J-11B and J-16 series. In light of this, the whole idea of using upgraded AL-31s seems to make a lot more sense. The Al-31 IIIs are rather optimal engines for the J-10B as it has roughly the same capabilities of the WS-10B(correct me if Im wrong here) and given the current political/financial situation, Russia will be guaranteed to provide the engines for decades to come. Meanwhile, the J-11Bs and the J-16s can be outfitted with the domestic variants. It's a rather optimistic assessment but I think the current course of action is the best.
