I don't understand why China on the one hand is eager to publish about new Z-10 units but new J-10 and Flanker units are being kept secret up to the point that photo's of newly inducted J-10B's on the internet are not allow to show their unit numbers.

Attack helicopters are more a tactical weapon than a scenario one. That means that they are not as useful as planes as a propaganda and, first of all, they lack the range to appear where they aren`t excpected .
It makes sense to hide weapons that could be useful in a scenario as the South China Sea conflict because they can be a bitter surprise to foreign nations.

I agree with that notion .. things like tanks, helos etc are primarily tactical .. planes, bombers etc are both tactical and strategic therefore usually more secretive.

I think the Americans and some other world powers already know where the new J-10 and Flanker units are located through satellite imagery, communication intercept and radar tracking.
While true, it would still prevent them from knowing precisely how many J-10's or Flankers there are, especially if the PLAAF use hangars to hide some aircraft

I think you need to do some research yourself and make your own conclusion ;)
I don't think anyone truly know the performance of the J10B and certainly not the KLJ10 or the Zhuk. There have been entire threads dedicated to radar performance and engines including the Rd33 and the Taihang or ALF31N v3 etc!

In terms of brochure talk the MiG 35 holds an advantage in terms of flight performance, range, speed, service ceiling etc but those things are only part of the total equation.
Radar and avionics plays a significant role and those data are harder to come by obviously.

The MiG is certainly more suited for naval aviation but in terms of 1 vs 1 head on, it's more difficult to determine.
