Iran’s defense minister says the Islamic Republic and China share a very successful experience of defense cooperation and are determined to strengthen mutual relations in the defense sector.

Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan made the remarks in a meeting with China’s Defense Minister Chang Wanquan in Moscow, Russia, on Friday.

The Iranian official brought up the issue of the ISIL Takfiri terrorists and the extent of their influence in East Asia, which he stated, meant a threat to security of China, the Caucasus region and the Central Asia.

Brigadier General Dehqan, who was in the Russian capital to attend the fourth Moscow International Security Conference, also emphasized that regional countries should improve serious cooperation and interaction to eradicate Takfiri-Zionist groups.

He denounced the West for supporting terrorist groups and violating the rights of nations in the region and warned that insecurity would have its own repercussions for the very governments that support the extremist groups.

He added that a meeting which is scheduled to be held among Iran, Russia and China in the near future would play a very effective role in “countering common threats and settling security problems in the region.”

The Chinese defense minister, for his part, hailed Iran’s proposal for the trilateral meeting and stressed the importance of improving bilateral and multilateral defense and military on global issues.

Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan and Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari held separate meetings with the visiting deputy chief of staff of China's army in Tehran on Wednesday during which both sides underlined the necessity for the development of the two countries' military cooperation.

"During the meeting, reciprocal visits to the two countries' fleet of warships and training centers was agreed," Sayyari told reporters.

"Also, intelligence cooperation was paid attention and we hope that these agreement will come into force by a joint naval committee and in the form of a cooperation pact," he added.

Also in a meeting with the Chinese deputy chief of staff, General Dehqan noted that cooperation between Tehran and Beijing has entered a new stage in all fields, specially in defense fields, and expressed the hope that the two countries' cooperation would enhance to strategic levels.

In relevant remarks today, a senior Iranian commander underlined the country's resolve to further develop military ties with China along with bilateral economic relations.

"Iran and China enjoy common positions and we want to expand our military ties like economic relations," Head of the Services and Joint Affairs of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri said in a meeting with the deputy chief of staff of the Chinese army.

"We share similar positions on the US unilateralism and we are seeking formation of an Asian structure and development of the Shanghai Treaty," he added.

General Baqeri said that Tehran and Beijing also have identical views on the necessity of fight against terrorism and extremism and restoration of stability in Syria and Iraq.

Iranian and Chinese officials in a meeting in Moscow in April underlined the two countries' determination to further strengthen military relations.

"Iran and China have enjoyed good relations since long ago and the Iranian Armed Forces are our good friends," Chinese Defense Minister General Chang Wanquan said in a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Brigadier General Dehqan on the sidelines of the Fourth International Security Meeting.

"The current conditions in the world necessitate strengthening and consolidating bilateral and multilateral defense and military cooperation," he added.

Chang also underscored the necessity for implementation of defensive agreements signed by the two countries.

Dehqan, for his part, pointed to Iran and China's highly successful experience in defensive cooperation, and said the two countries' determination to deepen cooperation can further reinvigorate their bonds and relations.

Iran and China have expanded relations in different trade, economic, military and scientific fields in recent years.

Also, Rear Admiral Sayyari announced in October that the Chinese navy officials were much willing to enhance mutual cooperation with Iran.

Speaking to reporters on after his meeting with Chang Wanquan, Sayyari said that the Chinese military favors to expand naval ties with Iran.

"Both sides underlined the need to promote military and naval cooperation," he noted.

Because it is about the Iranian vessels visiting the Russian port. I am not sure what Russian vessels were there when it did...but clearly the author was punctuating the Iranian visit.
