Infantry Combat Equipment (non-firearm): Vests, Body Armor, NVGs, etc.

Has this been mentioned? In non-censored shots, there is a QR Code for ID.
Is this a first for any military?
Talked about literally the first day. Don't know if first in world but definitely new. QR codes basically took over China already, so this is not surprising

I wanted to move what I am going to say to here, has it has less to do with the new rifles and more with Infantry gear in general.
I have heard of voiced again and again how the PLA is cheap in regards to infantry. The fact is that they are not unique in that regard. If you look at infantry forces no matter who they are they are always at the short end of the stick. Navy, Airforce, Missiles and armor Artillery no matter which service/nation get the money first and the lions share at that.

We all know whoever holds the purse-strings makes the decisions in the end, lol.

The Computer starts taking off in the 60s by the 70s you get the computer small enough to fit on a table but doesn’t get turbo charged until the early 90s. For 20 years computers were the size of buildings. Then they moved to the size of a room. Then you had computer that was the size of a whole luggage set. Then In the 90s the laptop emerged now it was small enough to carry in the field but issues plagued it.
The first attempts at soldier systems pre 9/11 were trying to pull Individual IT from industry and off the shelf tech, literally off the shelf of electronic stores. They took a computer tower and put it in a backpack frame.
...
The tablet worn by the PLA troops clearly is following that concept. We see with this latest iteration an attempt at handing off some features to other devices. The control foregrip follows that line, Mating with a Rifle mounted NV and radio.
It’s not unheard of for other militaries either. The USMC for example has had requirements for such [rifle accessory control unit (RACU)] since at least 2017.
Another element being Heads up displays for infantry.
The tablet package is fine for exchanging communications, map navigation or drone control.

It's my feeling that military technology tends to be about 30 years behind consumer tech. It seems silly, since so much technology also goes the other way around. I remember using some new NATO "State-of-the-Art" German digital fuse setting computer, (includes Flecktarn carrying case!). Anyway, it weighed at least 10 pounds, and all it did was set fuses. However, military technology requires a certain amount of "breaking in" and enhanced reliability, so it is understandable.

Adopting military smartphone/tablet is interesting, especially if standard issue. It would represent quite a leap in risk taking (in terms of established reliability). Stuff like that computer could easily be replaced by a software module and appropriate additional interface.

Eye tracking features is even more interesting, because there is a lot of research into things like smart rifle scope in general. A future smart lens could point a soldier to the highest threat using AI real-time video processing. Anyway, I think that is getting too far from the current discussion.

It would mean that it's likely the tablet will be standard issue. Also likely means that they are confident with some kind of secured military grade cellular network.

I think it should be taken more on a case by case deal rather than some mean overall number of years here. I mean the US ICBM facilities were using 1970s 8 inch floppy disks until recently yes.
Yet next to that you have the Pilots issued IPads as replacement for the old lap boards.
the Tablet computer really is what maybe 10 years old now. Some would point to the processors at the heart of military hardware and say see that’s old tech... yet reality is much of commercial consumer products are running in hardware that is over built to match the demands of high end graphic generation. Aviation and vehicle systems practically don’t need things like the lines of code for the car alarm or the individual climate control or Personal entertainment systems. Fly by wire control systems don’t need to generate as much processing as your Game engine.
It should also be pointed out that increasingly IT hardware is less on a rocket ship ride skywards and more on a software basis. Apps and “The Cloud” are the new way of memory and tech.
Military tech has arms that really have no consumer equivalent. Unless that is you personally own a Space rocket. Areas where military tech has bleed into the civilian arena often downgrade like Civilian night vision is often using active IR illumination first gen or second gen on the open market.

Not really; we saw soldiers at the parade in the new uniform with the QR code name badges without the tablet on their best as well.

I think the QR name badge is simply going to be the new standard combat uniform name badge, but not every soldier is going to receive a tablet.

My bet is the tablet is aimed more for leadership and specialist. Squad leaders and radioman, forward observers and the like.

Soldier ID tag goes QR coded is probably a first, as far as implementing in such a scale (even as a pilot scheme, the parade involved about those thousands of troops), but the US has been using QR code to catalogue their infantry small arms for years.

If we go by that announcement, the new camo will gradually roll out.

That may mean the smurf camo days are numbered.

Yay.
So of this Type 19? Type 20? Series we have apparently 5 patterns not counting the Multicam clones which my bet is would find there way to the Blue Army guys to stand in for villainous western interlopers...

I am betting Marines and Airborne will absorb some of the more specialized versions as there new vanity patterns. It’s hard to ditch such.

Then we have these Russian style uniforms

or Camo?

If it was the camo jacket with a T-Shirt Okay a work set but this General is wearing a Dress shirt and tie CLEARLY
48828477357_cb0c774308_o.jpg

The way this is set up on the General makes me think it’s meant to be Service Dress.
Okay but why bother with camo? Service Dress like Dress uniforms in general evolved from field uniforms that were rendered obsolete for field wear.
Case in point British No 2 Service Dress was worn in battle during World war 1 and 2 The USMC wore in early battles of World war 2 their Tropical Khaki Service dress Uniform at Pearl, Wake, the Philippines and Guam until HTB field fatigues entered service. British ServiceDress was rendered obsolete by BattleDress <British designation no space between words>. The Russians use these as a Service dress for day to day uniform for administrative functions. Much like the long or short sleeve uniforms worn in garrison just trading the button dress shirt style for a zipper version.
Camo is a bit of a waste in such OD or Green or Khaki is fine (Russian Airforce wearers Blue, Navy White or Navy), And it can be dressed up with a tie and coat. I think they have been watching to much Star Trek Enterprise.

Then we have the new rotary wing flight suit perhaps also for use by fixed wing transport crews?
