Setback for IAF's plans to arm fighter jets with Meteor missiles...

"The European manufacturers have told Air Force that they would not integrate the Meteor missile on either Russian platforms or with the Israeli equipment which can create issues but efforts are on to find a way out on the issue," sources told Mail Today.

Never expected Meteor in IAF on anything other than potential future Rafale. It's no easy task integrating a weapon. Even if India g ets the coding from Russia, they still need to write the thousands of lines of code. They've never integrated two foreign platforms before so it will not be done so quickly. Chinese engineers took quite some time to integrate Chinese ordinance onto Russian made flankers. Meteor on MKI or Fulcrum is some time away if coming at all.

S-400 purchase shows India does not really want to jump right into bed with the US led group. BJP would rather India stay independent of US influence. Good.

WASHINGTON ― India is moving forward with a procurement of the Russian S-400 Triumf air and missile defense system, despite possible U.S. sanctions against Moscow, India’s defense minister announced at a news conference.

Nirmala Sitharaman said June 5 that India has explained to the U.S. “how India and Russia’s defense cooperation has been going on for a long time and that it is a time-tested relationship.”

India has “got quite a lot of Russian defense assets ― assets, spares and servicing,” she added.

Despite the threat of U.S. sanctions “we have mentioned that CAATSA (Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act) cannot impact the India-Russia defense cooperation,” she noted.

The CAATSA was overwhelmingly passed by Congress in August 2017 ― a 98-2 vote in the Senate and 419-3 in the House ― empowering the legislature to “review and counter aggression” by Iran, Russia and North Korea.

, which came into effect in January 2018, can be brought to bear against any individual who “facilitates” an investment in Russia’s defense and intelligence sectors worth more than $10 million. Section 235 of the law stipulates U.S. President Donald Trump could then choose between five different sanction options, including asset freezes and denying access to U.S. and international financial institutions.

India’s defense and foreign ministers are expected to raise the issue of CAATSA sanctions when they meet with their U.S. counterparts in Washington in early July.

When asked if India will go through with the deal in light of possible U.S. sanctions, Sitharaman said: “The S-400 deal has been on for a very long time, and we have reached the final stage of negotiations. That explains it.”

The $5.5 billion deal between India and Russia for the procurement of five S-400 regiments ― consisting of approximately 40 transporter erector launchers, radar systems and command posts ― was first

is one of Russia’s most advanced air-defense systems. It is currently deployed in the Russian enclave in Kaliningrad, recently annexed territory in Crimea, and in Tartus, Syria, to protect Russian and Syrian air and naval units. The system is also deployed throughout western and eastern Russia.

Russia and India have a history of collaborating and sharing missile technology. Not only does India currently operate the Russian-made S-300 ― the S-400’s Cold War predecessor ― but the two countries also partnered throughout the late 1990s and 2000s to develop the BrahMos anti-ship and land-attack cruise missile.

If the deal is completed, India will join

Let me simplify your lives a bit India will do what India wants to do And The US will do as she feels is right. So There will be some compromise in between. That may mean a Slap on the wrist for India. but if they feel that the S400 is the missile for them they will go for it.

The Maldivian government has asked India to take back the second of two ALH helicopters gifted by the Indian government.

Indian newspaper Times of India ran an

reporting that the deals for both helicopters expired in April and that both need to be removed from Maldivian territory, with one having been stationed in Laamu atoll and the other in southernmost Addu City.

The Maldives National Defence Force returned the other helicopter, ‘Dhruv’, claiming that it ‘was not up to standards’. Indian officials have said on record that the move has been seen as duplicitous, with one claiming that the reason provided was ‘fig leaf’.

The armies of both nations had refrained from engaging in military operations together after India deployed the INS Sumedha in mid-May for a military training program in Maldives' exclusive economic zone.

Relations between India and Maldives have been especially sour since it called on the island nation to implement the Supreme Court of February 1, which President Yameen describes as an attempted “judicial coup”. India continues its call to implement the “ruling issued by the Supreme Court’s full bench”, and not one passed later after the contentious arrests of two justices.

Russian and European arms exporters should be glad that Washington continually reminds Delhi why it would be unwise to give the US substantial leverage over Indian defence-industrial matters.
