Indian analyst says india will use Andaman&Nicobar island to blockade China

Main issue in implementing a blockade in the Indian ocean is the volume of shipping traffic going through. Although a lot of traffic going through will be destined for China, (possibly the largest segment compared to all other nations) the majority of the traffic will be headed to other nations. How do you track and discriminate Chinese bound traffic in such circumstances? Any mistakes affecting, or even simply delaying any other nations commerce will piss off the entire region, including major Western powers that have a stake in trade and commerce in the region.

LOL it sounds like an Indian Navy ad, but I since I read it, I post Doklam standoff: Countering China in the backyard, Indian Navy silently tightens grip over Indian Ocean

New Delhi has tasked the Indian Navy to silently spread its influence and further strengthen its grip over the Indian Ocean Region.

As countries like Bangladesh, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand keenly watch the outcome of the standoff at the Doklam in Bhutan between the Indian and Chinese armies; New Delhi has tasked the Indian Navy to silently spread its influence and further strengthen its grip over the Indian Ocean Region.

Besides, the immediate security concern, India's stand on Doklam is also influenced by the message the outcome of stand-off will send to these neighbouring countries.

For the last two and half months Indian and Chinese troops are engaged in face-off at the Doklam plateau in Bhutan. China wants to construct a road through the plateau. India objects to the road and has deployed army.

A LARGE-MULTI-LATERAL EXERCISE OF INDIAN OCEAN LITTORAL COUNTRIES

For the first time ever Bangladesh - which now heads the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) - with the help of India will be organising a large Naval exercise involving over a dozen countries.

The IONS is an India initiative to increase maritime cooperation among navies of the littoral states of the Indian Ocean Region. The IONS was conceived by the UPA government to get "friendly" navies of the region together to counter the increased aggressiveness of China in the Indian Ocean region.

The exercise - likely to see participation from over a dozen countries - is likely to be held in the Bay of Bengal. The IONS platform had become dormant in the past-few years, "we have decided to revitalize the platform," a senior Ministry of Defence official told India Today and added "a large exercise with the participation of several littoral countries sends a tacit but a clear message."

REACHING OUT TO THE NEIGHBOURS

While China has been reaching out with big bucks, India has decided to take a more benign approach. Indian Navy is launching the Sambandh initiative - Naval officers and cadets from smaller countries that do not have big navies will now be welcome aboard INS Vikramaditya -India's aircraft carrier- Kolkatta class destroyer- the state of the art stealth guided missile destroyer - INS Kalvari - Scorpene Class diesel- electric submarine etc.

"Cadets and officers of smaller navies will get flavour of blue-water navy and how big navies are organised," a senior officer said. Cadets and officers from countries like Bangladesh, Kenya, Oman, Tanzania, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam etc will soon be on these platforms. South Block has already given its clearance to the initiative.

MOBILE TRAINING TEAM

Apart from the Sambandh initiate the Indian Navy is reaching out to the neighbourhood extending his training out-reach programme. Training teams of the Indian Navy will now be going to neighbouring countries.

"Many countries aren't able to send their officers, cadets to a foreign country for training, this initiative will be plug that gap," a senior officer said.

Each Mobile Training Team (MTT) will comprise 8 to 10 officers and can train more of officers at their home bases the officer added. Bangladesh has already asked India to set-up its submarine naval training school.

Earlier, India had trained a group of its submarine cadets at the Visakhapatnam based INS Satavahana. The Navy has been approached by the countries Thailand, Sri Lanka, Myanmar for MTT.

MORE PERMANENT DEPLOYMENT OF INDIAN WARSHIPS

Indian Naval warships will now be permanently deployed at the Malacca Straits -the crucial strait connecting the Indian Ocean, Pacific Ocean linking major Asian economies such as India, China, Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea- and Indian warships will be more visible at Sunda Straits - a crucial passage that connects Indian Ocean to Eastern Asia.

About 70 per cent of the global trade by value passes through the Malacca and Sunda Straits.

Read this comment below from one of the commentators, Lol, its really funny. The delusion is unbelievable. Indians believe their own hype about being a world power, while the rest of the world really sees India as a poor slum infested country.

The Chinese establishment is evidently shaken by the confidence of Indian Army, Air Force Navy as well the Ministry of Defence and the Govt of India. The firmness with which India is handling the Doklam issue has visibly shaken the Chinese decision makers who were otherwise just taking India for granted. They must now be working on a two-prong strategy. First, carefully studying India''s growth into an economic as well as military superpower. Secondly, trying to find out any possibility of striking a strategic partnership with India - that could guarantee China a numero uno status in terms of global power equations. By now, China must have realised the importance of India as a global swing state. The side with which India stands - is bound to be the numero uno global power.

Chinese navy’s live-fire drill may be warning shot to India amid ongoing Doklam stand-off

Commander says Indian Ocean exercise is designed to improve battle readiness as Beijing signals willingness to protect vital shipping routes

The Chinese navy has held a live-fire drill in the waters of the western Indian Ocean, in a possible sign that the People’s Liberation Army is stepping up its readiness for a potential conflict with India.

The Chinese naval formation – consisting of the destroyer Changchun, guided-missile frigate Jingzhou and supply vessel Chaohu – conducted the drill under real combat conditions, state-run Xinhua reported on Friday.

The fleet conducted strikes against “enemy” ships and replenished vessels with fuel and drinking water in a side-by-side manoeuvre, the report said.

It said the exercise was designed to improve the navy’s “far-ranging” abilities, but did not reveal exactly where or when the drill took place.

Chen Denan, chief of staff of the Chinese fleet, was quoted as saying that various drills under complicated circumstances were conducted to improve battle readiness.

Xinhua said the fleet was on a half-year friendship tour of Asia, Europe, Africa and Oceania, and had conducted joint exercises with navies from 10 other countries since it started its voyage on April 23.

The navies of India, the United States and Japan have also recently completed their annual Malabar exercises in the Indian Ocean.

The PLA Navy drill was conducted as China and India continued to lock horns in a border dispute in Doklam, an area lying between Tibet’s Chumbi valley to the north, Bhutan’s Ha valley to the east and India’s Sikkim state to the west.

Ni Lexiong, a Shanghai-based military affairs commentator, said the Chinese drill was a sign that Beijing was “determined to take action” if Chinese vessels were blocked from travelling in the Indian Ocean.

China relies heavily on imported fuel and more than 80 per cent of the nation’s oil imports travel via the Indian Ocean or Strait of Malacca. A blockade of Chinese vessels by the Indian navy in the Bay of Bengal or the Indian Ocean would be devastating to Beijing.

“If a full-scale war happens, the ocean will be a key field,” Ni said. “And China needs to make a gesture that it is prepared for potential conflict.”

The stand-off between China and India began in June when Indian troops moved in to stop China extending a road on the Doklam plateau. Beijing has called on India to withdraw the troops unconditionally.

In the three months since, the Chinese military has carried out several high-profile drills near its border with India in Tibet, including one in July using live ammunition.

China has also stepped up activities in the Indian Ocean, usually under the banner of anti-piracy and freedom of navigation patrols.

In February, the Chinese missile destroyers Haikou and Changsha conducted live-fire anti-piracy and combat drills in the East Indian Ocean to test combat readiness, according to state media reports.

The Indian Ocean features in President Xi Jinping’s ambitious “One Belt, One Road Initiative” and India has expressed concerns over China’s increased presence in the region, where it is building ports and other infrastructure in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Apart from buying 22 Guardian unarmed drones from the US to tighten surveillance of the strategic waters, India would hold a large joint maritime exercise with more than a dozen countries in the region later this year to “counter the increased aggressiveness of China”, India Today reported.

Yeah the Indian propaganda are trying to distract their audiences away from the recent rape verdict by one of the popular Guru's that left dozen's dead or injured. How sad, and the western media doesn't pick this up and condemned that the Indian government do a better job of policing their people. If this were to happen in China they would be all over it.
