How long does it take to build a ship and/or repair a critically damaged one

That topic raises a question for me.
The CVN-77 was laid down in sept'03, launched in okt'06, and will be commisioned in '09. That's roughly six years.
What's the minimum time e.g. for the US to built a CVN and bring it into service under wartime conditions?

The US hasn't had a wartime economy since 1945. The fastest they bought a carrier from keel laying to comissioning was USS Hancock. Keel laid Dec. 1943 - Comissioned April 1944.

Agreed. If there were a real Naval war where such US Navy vessels were threatened, severely damage, or even sunk, you would see times compress significantly, even for the nucs.

In addition, I am willing to bet that you would see the Sea Control carriers come out in more numbers and faster with derivitaves of the Osprey to handle AEW and ASW off of such vessels, in addition to decent airwings of F-35s.

How fast could they be commissioned? I am not sure...but I bet they would be a lot faster than they are now in relative peace time (t least for the Navy in terms of at sea threats).
