Hong-Kong Protests

I know it's been a while since this thread was made and now it has nearly 400 pages with thousands of replies.

But I think I speak for many when I say it's time to end this political discussion sh*t. This is a defense forum not a political one.

HK protest will go on but so will China's rise. Eventually HK and its economy will be insignificant to mainland. There will always be tensions between HK and mainland, mostly caused by HK ignorant youth aspiring for something that is completely untenable and devoid of reality; also pushed by those (Taiwan, US) looking to use HK as a geopolitical tool.

But eventually many years from now, those youth will mature and face the reality of things. Their aspirations will disappear and so will the tensions.

Until that time comes, the tensions will remain. We can't keep talking about them or this thread will reach 2000+ pages.

Unless something extraordinary happens in HK, I think its time people step back and simply observe what's happening there.

It's largely over now. One part could be US cash running out. Another part is that the rioters have not crossed over into true terrorism even if this is probably what their sponsor wants them to do very much.

Even if you look at the cases which people have decried as domestic terrorism, it should be said that the rioters were not trying to use lethal force against police or different thinking people in 99% of cases. Otherwise, a hella lot more people would have died. Just look at prison riots in Brazil to see what happens when there is actual killing intent.

At the end of the day while some people in China has issues with their government, terrorism is not on their mind.

2018 and onward has been an era of failure of capitalist systems. From France to Chile and also China's HK which does not operate with the socialist protections given to the rest of the country.

Even if the rioters have been exploited into fighting for more oppression, not less, its undeniable that there are core grievences shared with people like those in France.

I don't think these problems will subside even in the 2020s. As long as living cost keeps hiking while wages remain stagnant and debt grows, there will only be more and more trouble.

Hongkong economy is already insignificant to China for a very long time and will get even smaller and smaller

The protests have been successful for ANTI-PRC forces.
It has given the DPP of Taiwan a major win - extending their rule for 4 more years. I see that as great ROI for all the Financial and Political support extended to prodems of HK.

@Pika
This thread is indeed political. But it is under the Members only page of this forum. Members are discussing things that are very significant to China. I don't see any problems.

Any thread can be political if someone tried their best. A China defence forum that doesn't discuss HK and Taiwan issues is very poor taste. HK and Taiwan is very much Geopolitics, Defence and Politics.

Thank you Xsizor, I was going to reply, but you put it over so much better!

I thought it speaks volume for thread that had over 400 posts and many more replies and likes, yet very little need for Mods to step in to calm things down.

This goes to show how much self-control us posters were during this, the most... em, most interested periods of Hong Kong's development. And since Hong Kong is part of China's Geopolitical sphere. It is only right that we are allowed to discuss this in a friendly discussion.

Members who don't agreed doesn't have to participate, and ignor the thread, or even the individual. He is free to do so.

He is also free to come out wirh his "political discussion sxxt". But please do not be-littled other members here who have made contribution in this thread over this time! That is most uncalled for!

I apologize if my language was too strong. I've always had the mindset that this forum had "no political discussion" rule. And the existence of this thread seems counter to that rule. [Even though I created it....my intentions were never political but strictly PAP military movement]

Anyway regardless of my opinion, it seems the mods are tolerating this thread so I'll simply just ignore it.

I'll check back in the future to see if it reaches 2000+ pages.

HK’s colonial story is over.

This was the last death throw of the traitors.
Wait...Did the authorities catch all of these "bad" elements ?
The answer is NO. The "colonial"/ foreign influences story of HK isn't over.
In fact, there are no Bad elements in HK. There are only bad ideologies and beliefs.
HK is very much susceptible to further violence. In fact, the July 2019 protests have set a precedent. I can't/don't see how the next protests could be effective for the "bad" elements without outperforming the 2019 protests.

All I want is for a stronger PRC who have learned lessons and have the vigour and courage to apply what they've learned. I sure hope they learned plenty from the 2019 protests.

I just saw on CNN using footage from the Soleimani body transport back to Iran as anti-Iran government protests over the airliner crash. The other day reporting on a recent Hong Kong protest, a news site used a photo I saw from a previous protest where there's a large protest crowd and a lone guy is squatting on top of a car above everyone else pointing up at something. It's hypocritical where they criticize Trump exaggerating crowd size when they do it all the time.
