So like, after all this is over, what do you guys think CCP will do to deal with the forever brainwashed and ensure this doesn't happen again?
Forgot where but didn't the CCP say something along the lines of a tighter grip on the HK government and a complete redo of the HK education with Chinese patriotism being a higher focus. They said they will teach HK their history of their country under British rule.

Blood spilled over political differences in Hong Kong, with six hurt as knife-wielding man attacks family after argument
  • Four injured by attacker – who is in turn savaged by an angry crowd – after argument over political issues. Another man hurt while protecting suspect
  • Tensions flare after hundreds of Hongkongers heed online call to take to the streets on Sunday afternoon in unauthorised citywide protest
I have my own reserve judgement after watching that video. The whole scene look staged. I could not see any bitten off ear piecece caught live in the act. Only after the attacker randomly charged the crowd to pick his next victim to throw everybody off focus then victim pointed downward and said that his ear piece is on the floor but what looked like a bloodless plain white (could be pig ear, who knows). The victim is also a pan democratic party candidate. All seem too fishy lately with all these violences towards election candiates that are pro-China. They also accused the attacker of speaking Mandarin so he must be from China, but what if he’s actually from Taiwan? Well, these are all that I’ve observed. There’s also news this weekend about attacked victims putting on fake blood makeup caught on camera. Careful what you believe in, could be staged fake news.

I'm not in the mood to watch the related footage,

but I would've thought if "a district councillor who had part of his ear bitten off" (from the first sentence of

)

and his suspected assailant were both forensically examined,

it should be easy to confirm or deny the ear story (on both parts of that ear of the 1st individual would be teeth marks of the 2nd individual, I guess)

Hong Kong surgeons reattach part of district councillor Andrew Chiu’s ear, bitten off by knifeman near Cityplaza mall
  • Local politician is recovering after an overnight operation to reconstruct his left ear. Two others remain critical in hospital
  • Five were badly injured in horrific attack outside the Tai Koo shopping centre on Sunday, including suspect who was beaten by crowd

It was the "communique of the fourth plenary session of 19th CPC Central Committee". I posted the quotation in #2523

I think this is the big question and I'm not sure there is anything the central government can do in the short term.

Someone mentioned exchange programs a few weeks ago, already trying:

I believe only time will solve the problem.

1. The current crop of teachers is primarily educated in Western countries or Colonial period when Tiananmen Square was still a big deal. They will eventually retire.
It's been nearly 40 years, but most anti-China propaganda talks about it like it was yesterday. Who believes that Germany will backslide into Nazism? That was only 80 years ago. Will the US reestablish segregation? Only 60 years ago...

Many of the rioters and peaceful protesters reminisce of halcyon colonial days, at under 30 years old, it is not a reality for them. Only one constructed by these teachers and politicians with agendas influenced by what was recent history for them.

2. Economy will have to suffer partial collapse and recovery.
Hong Kong's economy has always relied on trading between PRC and Western countries. Regular people are not objective, or well-informed, other ideas swirl in their head (one SCMP article described youth's ideal HK as Cantonese speaking enclave, no mainland tourists, no chain stores that cater to these tourists, etc.). A naive and absurd notion, as conglomerates already took over HK in colonial period. Swire Group owns property, Cathy, Coca-Cola bottling, etc. Jardine Matheson (a company whose fortune was built on opium smuggling) owns 7-11 franchise rights, property, Hotels etc. Nothing to do with Mainland China, Communist Party, or Mandarin speakers.

Since they are acting like children, they might only learn like children, let them run the government and partially wreck the economy. Once the people have no jobs and no money, they will come to their senses (learning from their mistakes).

3. Other gradual changes over time. Many people have already pointed out the obvious, the same discontent does not exist in the rest of China as it does in HK (despite being "less free"). The irony is that for the last few decades, PRC government has been very responsive to society despite not being elected in the Western style. As I mentioned, I think it is impossible to improve the situation without some political reforms. Central government just needs to be confident in their ability to shape the important policies in HK as they do in Mainland.

How the "National Security Law" (national law) can be imposed to Hong Kong without Hong Kong legislation of 23rd item of the Basic Law? Here is the answer.
Note, I am not suggesting this should be done right now, I am to make it clear that there is legal arrangement well within Hong Kong's Basic Law to do so if necessary.

From this link of Hong Kong government

Annex 3 of Basic Law states:
National laws included in annex 3 shall be implemented in Hong Kong either by Hong Kong legislation (by legislation consul), or by declaration (degree) of the executive consul. It does NOT necessitate local legislation which have blocked the 23rd legislation in 2003.

Also see the footnotes, the addition and removal of what national laws apply to Hong Kong is totally within the power of National Congress. The Hong Kong legislation consul (some trouble makers within) has no power or means to do anything about it.

附件三: 在香港特別行政區實施的全國性法律*

下列全國性法律,自一九九七年七月一日起由香港特別行政區在當地公布或立法實施。

The central government did not push through the 23rd was only to give Hong Kong legislators another chance, not because it can not force it through the throats of them. If the central government is determined after the ongoing mess, it just need to ask the chief executive to make the declaration according to annex 3 to implement the "National Security Law" in Hong Kong. BTW, this law is much tighter than the would-be 23rd of Basic Law. The irony is that, a spoiled child demand more candies by smashing around only to get even more bitter medicine that he/she could have avoided if not smashing around.

Also, once National Security Law is applied in Hong Kong, I am certain that some foreign nationals within Hong Kong institutions can be fired on the ground of national security especially based on their behavior during the mess.
