    Re: H-6 bomber thread

    News travels fast @[email protected]

    http://www.ausairpower.net/APA-Badger.html

The most recent reports from China suggest a third new build variant is in test, usually labelled the 'H-6K'. This subtype is claimed to have a solid nose not unlike the H-6U, six wing pylons for cruise missiles, one centreline pylon, and a bomb bay fuel tank. There is speculation that it may use a new turbofan engine. Given the baseline payload of a pair of Krakens or KD-63 on the H-6D/H, it is likely that the 'H-6K' will be limited to weapons in the 2,000 lb class, such as ASCMs, rather than longer ranging LACMs.

    Re: H-6 bomber thread

reports of first flight of H-6K on January 5th. There is actually report of another successful first flight for XAC. Not sure if this is the one for H-6K or the other one.
apparently, this one says 20000 XAC employee waited 13 years for this moment and the first flight is successful. It's hard to comprehend that 13 years is required to modify H-6 to use new engines and such. Maybe there is another bomber coming out?
the other report of a new plane making maiden flight, this one could also be on H-6K. This happened on December 16th.
yeah, compared to previous H-6, the shape of the intake does seem to have changed, it looks like it got stretched a little vertically and compressed a little horizontally. Also, it's nice to see that chin radar getting removed and housed in the nose instead. Also, it seems to be that the missiles looks the most like YJ-62 (maybe an air-launched type?). 6x1350 = 8.1 tonne of payload on the wings.

also, the changing of engine on H-6 was discussed in 2005 on this thread, so I got some figures here.

    Re: H-6 bomber thread

wait, are you saying that current h-6 are using wp-8 engines?

    Re: H-6 bomber thread

yes, is there something wrong? I thought huitong also mentionned that in his summary. According to the guy posting in the thread, China did consider replacing 2 WP-8 with 4 WS-9, but there was too much changes required. Whereas with D-30KP, you still use 2 engines and the dimensions are relatively close, so that's why it was chosen, btw, interesting enough, this was already done in June of 2005.

Im sorry, i was an idiot then. I completely misunderstood the engine situation. if old engine was ws8 then d-30 is a definite improvement in every way. Cool. :)

    Re: H-6 bomber thread

btw, it's interesting that I bumped into this today. It mentionned not H-6K but H-6X. fits the description of H-6M on huitong's site.

it basically says that it carries 4 ASM and was used from 01 to 04 to replace old H-6. It carries YJ-83, which has a range of 250 km and terminal speed of mach1.4

could it be the clone of Kh-55SM Kent which china has illegally acquired from Ukraine?

    Re: H-6 bomber thread

I am thinking they increased the thrust and decreased fuel consumption by replacing the engines, probably did some minor lightening of the airframe by redesigning a few parts, and that allows for an increase in MTOW, meaning more fuel and ordinance can be carried. So yes, I think there is a good chance that the range on the H-6K has been increased.

And those missiles? Probably a new anti-shipping missile, or a new stand-off land attack cruise missile, judging from the shape (I don't see no mid-body fins, maybe they are folded in until launch?).

another new photo on H-6K, and it seems to have a solid nose cone with a long refueling probe sticking out.
