What is the max range of the HQ-9? Cause on the new air defence report, Planeman says it's about 90KM rather than the 200KM slant range on sinodefence.

I think its about 100 to 120km, according to the FT-2000 brochure and a report on the HHQ-9.

Slant range? Or just range in general?
Is there a link to this HHQ-9 report?

And just out of interest, I thought I'd do pythagoras to find the HQ-9's range (not sure what name it is for it, flat range?), from the 200km slant and 30km altitude, I came up with 197Km...

I don't think the 200km is slant, rather it might be ballistic, from point A in the ground to point B in the ground.

The HHQ-9 report is Chinese but I can't say if its authoritative or from Internet speculator.

I would assume both effective and slant range would be half of ballistic range. Also, the missile is only as good as far as the radar is effective, which means the target has to be LOS with the radar and at sufficiently close range to get an accurate track and speed of the target. The radar also has to illuminate the target for missile guidance.

As range goes further, PRF (pulse repetitive frequency, Pulse per second) lengthens proportionately. Electronic advancements can't fudge physics by the way; pulse length is directly determined by distance and the speed of light. As PRF and PPS drops, so does the tracking accuracy and the measurement of speed, ambiguity starts entering, and so does loss in signal gain and increased vulnerability to countermeasures.

Hope these pics are true!?

More importantly, I hope China did invest in developing missile system as claimed. Thus have a say on who to sell too.

It's kinda ambiguous whether china simply invested in it or was part of the development process . Personally I hope it's the latter because that way it could use some of the S-400 technologies on upgrading HQ-9's or something.

Also, is it just me or does the S-400 TEL look less mobile than the S-300 series (and HQ-9?) It's now a trailer with the TEL behind it rather than a whole truck thing dedicated to launching missiles.. Would this effect the S-400's mobility?
