Not really ditching 5G because 6G is an evolution of 5G, fundamentally the same thing just like 5G to 4G. For example, Cloud RAN is already a thing in 5G.
Are they going to ditch 5G infrastructure and attempt to usurp China lead in 6G instead?
Empty political gestures. International standards and specifications in telecoms are formulated by international working groups made up of numerous companies, none of which includes political entities such as the White House. When technical decisions are going to be made by political actors, you end up with idiocy and self-destruction.Not really ditching 5G because 6G is an evolution of 5G, fundamentally the same thing just like 5G to 4G. The US has a special interest in cloud RAN because they are stronger than Europe in cloud computing. Although US is weaker than Europe in Base station based radio domain (SW and HW), by forcing radio domain to be moved into cloud US can guarantee those radio parts are running on US platforms. It also force Europe (Ericsson and Nokia) and SK (Samsung) to live in US "prison".
While China is also strong in cloud computing, so it is not going to usurp China, but it is for US to get Europe and SK into its fold. One can say it is a looting of European and Korean's lead over US.
Well it is political driven but it does have materialistic impact. US will demand everything to be in cloud, Ericsson, Nokia and Samsung have no cloud platform, so they have to adopt their SW for US cloud machines.Empty political gestures. Each of these companies seems to have their own software solution for this. I am not sure I see exactly where they need to adopt USG-approved (backdoor riddled) software. Is USG going to pick one of those and force all the others to use the same software?Well it is political driven but it does have materialistic impact. This demand isn't in conflict with international standard as cloud RAN is going to be in the standard. It is not something forced by US. Huawei is also working on it since itself is a strong player in cloud computing.
David Goldman's takedown of Elbridge Colby's Strategy of Denial
Strange, when was the last time the USA manage to innovate in technology because as I recall, the F-35 was literally a trillion dollar disaster where a number of components come from China in such numbers where they literally have to put a waiver in just to prevent themselves from scraping the project due to they stupidity of having enemy components in their star project which is bound to make them useless in a fight against China, I mean a few times when they tried to use them against China it was intercepted by a j-20 just recently even though the USA pretends it have a stealth button (which is a load of nonsense) so the idea that the USA can innovate alone is almost as likely has Blinken becoming better at diplomacy which really is impossible.

That’s what he said 10 years ago. How could anyone still believe this tripe?
The US can't even afford widespread 5G let alone that the US doesn't even have 4G covering the US.
