He probably also can't come here because if we discuss the leaks in this forum and he also participates in this forum, there could be legal consequences.

The gov is probably going to gag everyone from participating on public discussions until they pass extra training etc, but surely at some point the gov will relax their measures

Maybe the mods can contact him and see if there is a way forward

It's the best we got from what the United states may believe the speed the drone flies at. And sure US intelligence is flawed sometimes but other times it can be pretty good, the US is also an aerospace giant as well, and could most definitely accurately speculate it's true capabilities compared to our squabble on this forum. The US intelligence service has it's best interest to paint an as accurate picture as it can on enemy capabilities so it's definitely not a completely unreliable piece of information

As long as we are guessing the veracity of these leaks, it is best to remain on the safe side and consider any new information that has been gleaned from the "leaks" as false.

At 30km altitude and Mach 3, the WZ-8 will take ~16.6 min from release to landing for Taiwan and ~14.7min for Korea.

The real "time on station" will be even less, as travel time after release and before landing take up distance, speed, and therefore time, and flight altitude(actually air density, right?) will affect Mach speed.

Just eyeballing it, only 3/5 for Taiwan and 3/6 for Korea of WZ-8 flight time is over land.

That's ~9.9min/16.6min and ~7.3min/14.7min over land for Taiwan and Korea, respectively.

Maybe as a recon drone, it's designed not to fly too fast? Maybe any faster and it zooms past targets too quickly. Remember its flying at 30000m (98425.1969 feet) (Stratosphere).

Edit: Actually, just realized this is the rough altitude for "weather balloons". Haha. "Weather Supersonic Drone"

At Mach 3, If they are not waiting for it , reaction time will be too long most of the time to have a target window to shot it. After that you need to hit it even if you the time to shot. Speed and altitude make it quite hard to reach.

WZ8 is rocket powered and seemingly designed for speed, flying very high where the air is very thin. I'd be very surprised in M3 is anywhere close to its Vmax.
