Agree.

In fact, compared to the Philippines, at least Indonesia still have some degree and sense of autonomy.

Therefore, it is imperative for China to work out a resolution on the EEZ dispute with Indonesia surrounding the Natuna Islands ASAP, like how Vietnam and Indonesia has agreed to delineate their EEZ disputes around Natuna several days ago.

Out of all the claimants in the SCS, Indonesia has the least to loose from the dispute. So I think China should capitalize on this opportunity.
Exactly. If the US insists on going back to Cold War blocs, then there should be nothing stopping China from doing the same. Now's a good time to make amends with its Southeast Asian neighbors. At the same time, keep good relations with countries like Australia and SK, enough to the point that they won't intervene in a Taiwan scenario.

China Meteorological Administration release heaps of helium balloons each year, in fact I remember watching a documentary about them back in the 90s and CMA people were saying there's some trick to them because the skin have to be very light weight plastic so it's fragile and when you release it it looks like an upside down used condom all wrinkly because you are only suppose to fill them with a small amount of helium at release time, as when it ascends to the target altitude the air pressure will be very low and the balloon will expand to the full size then. If you fill it till it's round at release time it will burst very quickly.

Seems entirely possible that some of those balloons stay up longer than expected and drift all over the place with wind, and Americans are just overreacting again.

But still, the fact that this thing made it all the way to Montana before being detected is interesting, I wonder...

You know if you make them all out of plastic.

Also, Indonesia is the counter balance China can rely on against Australia, not that China ever fears Australia, but having Indonesia there to distract and stretch Australia's ability is always welcome.

There's just disagreement on what an effective solution would be.

Do something. Do anything (besides white worship).

Stop the excuses before even trying!
iT'S ImPoSsIbLe
iT WiLl nEvEr wOrK
iT'S CoMpLiCaTeD

Look at the bottom. The PLA think tank thinks the whole government should be mobilized to attack and defend in psychological warfare. They don't make excuses about how everything is supposedly "impossible" without even trying.

Increase the skill level. Go on the offensive (the most important). Stop the white worship. Stop being so nice. Stop hiding or downplaying Caucasian crimes. Stop giving them face. Stop being useful idiots eg repeating western talking points. Actually censor stuff that should be censored - any white worshiping media, any western ngo like fake feminist groups trying to incite a gender war, the girly Asian man promotion, etc. Shut down lots of their fake ngos which act as Trojan Horses.

I've given many examples of the skills deficit and how to improve in the past.

The vast majority of the problems are a weak nice guy attitude (refusal to attack or offend) and a severe skills deficit.

Before you think I'm exaggerating at the insane incompetence of the Chinese mediam here's a recent glaring example.

Can Pfizer defend its COVID-19 research from viral undercover videos? - CGTN
Please, Log in or Register to view URLs content!

You can't tell from this limp-wristed headline, but a Pfizer executive was caught on video admitting that Pfizer is using gain of function to breed new coronavirus variants so they can infect billions of people and sell new dangerous vaccines for profit.

The words psychotic, evil, crime against humanity, bombshell, scam, scandal, weaponized virus, mutate deadlier versions, Frankenstein, dystopian, murderous, genocidal, global take over, extortion, medical terrorism, biological warfare technology, sinister, conspiracy, plot, murder inc, profit over people, pfizer plans to infect billions for profit, death for profit, manufacture virus for profit, unleash deadly pathogen, engineered pandemic, etc all could have been used.

This is one of the biggest medical scandals in history. The white worship network, CGTN, called the psychotic manufacture of more deadly viruses, "research".

Who does CGTN actually work for? Why does their headline sound like a PR coverup job for Pfizer? This level of incompetence is crazy.

Imagine the roles were reversed. Do you think the West would call this crime against humanity "research"????? I can see the headlines.

COMMUNIST TAKE OVER: The CCP unleash deadly new variant of the Chinese virus for world domination.
BREAKING: Chinese biological warfare program intends to murder billions for profit.
PURE EVIL: The Chinese Communist Party weaponized a new deadlier Wuhan flu against democracies.
WE ARE UNDER ATTACK: The CCP's state controlled, Fai Zhu, has launched another Chinese biowarfare weapon on the free world.

I think it's good, but basically confined to the internet generations. It's not enough to overturn the brainwashing of the older generations, who are the ones that actually hold all the political power. They've already built their whole worldview on supplication and white worship.
The old will die off. The young will ascend to power. Why are we not doing anything online (or elsewhere to influence them)? Even the top PLA think tank sees online as a key battleground for public opinion shaping.

Notice the key words: full time offense and defense, whole government effort required.

Ok. I'm done. If you read nothing else, just read the underlined comments from the PLA's top think tank. There are many detractors here who will smear up and down that only hard power matters. Well, look at what the PLA's top think tank says. It's crystal clear that hard power alone is insufficient, which I have said since day 1.

"When the U.S. defense secretary,
Please, Log in or Register to view URLs content!
III, visited Indonesia in November, he pressed his counterpart there about a deal to buy 36 American fighter jets. He left without an agreement.

Just days before, the same Indonesian official, Prabowo Subianto, met with China’s defense minister, and the two countries pledged to resume joint military exercises.

Located across the southern edge of the South China Sea, Indonesia, the resource-laden nation with a fast-growing trillion-dollar economy and a large population, is a big prize in the geopolitical battle between Washington and Beijing for influence in Asia. And its strategic location, with about 17,000 islands straddling thousands of miles of vital sea lane, is a defensive necessity as both sides gear up for a possible conflict over Taiwan, the island democracy that China claims it possesses."

China should really just be consolidating support in the countries it has influence in. Wooing Philippines is pretty fruitless as long as the Nine-Dash-Line policy is in place.
If G20 summit is a gauge were the sentiment in ASEAN lies then the answer is obvious, @Overbom bro sorry BUT your view regarding Vietnam and Indonesia alliance against China is few and far between. China is our neighbor and the US is far away, whether we like it or not we are part of Chinese Sphere of Influence, all those noise about access of bases in the Philippine are just noise. A masquerade to hide the true intention of renewing the EDCA agreement which will expire this year, the media bliss is part of US pressure tactic in negotiating with Marcos administration. And accessing is different from a permanent base, the Chinese for decades had live with American permanent presence in Clark and Subic with nuclear weapon deployed. So IF there is an agreement the Chinese won't lost sleep because they have an Escalatory Dominance in the region and those pre positioning of equipment will be useless as the Chinese will attack those bases with impunity.

So what will the Philippines gain? It's all optics design to show that the US is wanted in region which is not, we aren't the one seeking this deal desperately so is SK and others in ASEAN, we want peace in our neighborhood and base on historical fact the Chinese don't have any imperialist agenda.

I think the US are grasping at straws, they are desperate and never feel this vulnerable. They see there is a new kid in town and everybody want to be his friends, the jealousy and hubris had finally dawn on the American, They're not number one anymore and being a bully, without his minions he is nothing.

Indeed.

Although, as an addendum - Here's the SCS dispute map:
South_China_Sea_claims_map.png

Notice how China isn't the only country who has clashing claims with other countries over the islands and islets in the SCS. In particular, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei and the Philippines also clashed with one another over the Spratly Islands.

A united ASEAN against China is a bad thing for China. On the other hand, a disunited ASEAN with significant portions of the group leaning on China's side is a good thing for China.

Hence, China should use this golden opportunity to pit countries that have conflicting interests against each other, before all of them can unite and fight against China as one entity. Therefore, time is of the essence.

Award countries that are willing to cooperate with China, and discipline countries that dare to go against China. This is the golden rule of geopolitics.

If things come to shove and China is forced to form her own Cold War 2.0 block against the US in the WestPac, then it would be in the best of interests for China to court Vietnam, Malaysia and Brunei to lean on China's side.

For example, China can grant the Parcel Islands (or at least the western half of the island groupings) to Vietnam, and southern half of the Spratly Islands to Malaysia and Brunei. China will assume ownership of the northern half of the Spratly Islands and the Scarborough Reef. The Philippines, due to their past actions and behaviors against China, is to get absolutely nothing.

Of course, this has to be done in exchange for Hanoi, Kuala Lumpur and Bandar Seri Begawan to completely exclude themselves from the confrontation with the US-led "allies" in the WestPac, alongside enacting government policies that would be more favoring to Chinese investments in their countries. To add on, China can increase cooperation with the Malaysian authorities to safeguard Sabah's security and integrity from any attempted territorial incursions by Sulu militant groups coming from southern Philippines.

They key is to buy favors, strengthen backing, and reduce trouble to a minimum for China on the geopolitical arena in the WestPac.

Its a fucking weather balloon guys.

Its probably not government sent, just some research institution studying air currents or high-altitude air quality or something. That its a research institution from China makes it scary because most Americans don't think China's capable of doing research but its a serious nothing-burger.

Its a fucking balloon, lads.

One of the comment on CNN is "it could be carrying a nuke and Biden still wont shoot it down!".

Watching the collective cognitive decline of 330 million people is surreal.

Edit: Here's another one

"I wonder why no Chinese generals contacted General Milley to let him know it was coming..."

"However, the IMF predicted that Russian GDP would rebound slightly in 2023 to 0.3 percent growth, and in 2024, the Russian economy is predicted to grow by 2.1 percent. That's higher than the IMF's projection for the United States, which it said would see only 1 percent GDP growth that year, and down from a predicted 1.4 percent in 2023, and the 2 percent the U.S. enjoyed in 2022."

So much for sanctions.
