I wonder if Shou Zi Chew is dumb enough to think he can change anything. All it is is a circus performance to further the Republicans' agenda. They're going turn Shou Zi Chew into a clown show at his expense. For some reason there are Chinese/Asians that think they're something special... that they'll be the exception. During my activist days, I'll come across Asians fighting against racism who spurn traditional American mainstream ways to fight against it like being confrontational. Instead they think being nice and don't do anything to upset white racists will win them over. If only whites recognized how much Asians give them the benefit of the doubt.

The only thing that makes me wonder is why doesn't the US pull the trigger and already have banned TikTok completely? Are they worried they'll unleashed a sleeping dragon, not from China, but from all the young people in the US that love TikTok so much that the negative prejudices of anything Chinese has no affect. There's this prejudice that young Americans are ignorant of the realities of world so they wouldn't care but this is something that affects them directly so who knows? BTW, anyone notice now that when you type "TikTok", there's no red underline correction anymore. Usually when there's new terminology, there will be the redline underline correction that shows up until it becomes mainstream. TikTok culturally has been a part of the US for a while and still the red underline until now.

TikTok is anything but China. Banning TikTok is purely political and economical. It has nothing to do with national security. Anyone with a ounce of brain knows that. However, banning TikTok would have repercussion as other countries might find it plausible to ban American apps. In addition, youngsters have been a big supporters of democratic party. Banning TikTok might have alienated a voting block for Democratic Party which frankly is stupid and shortsighted for the party but everyone knows it is neo-con such as Sullivan running the show so what do you expect.

TikTok is the canary in the coalmine litmus test. the moment they ban TikTok rest assured WeChat and DJI will quickly follow etc...

The US is preparing for hot kinetic war against China.. for the same reason UK eventually reneged and relented to US pressure to ban Huawei (Trump told Boris on the call that US was going to pull the TSMC card anyway etc) it's likely the banning of TikTok is the signaling of the point of inflection of hot war, starting a countdown timer of sorts that means there would be less than 6 months left from that pointer in time.

The only thing that makes me wonder is why doesn't the US pull the trigger and already have banned TikTok completely?

It should the lawsuits, is my guess.

The banning of TikTok is freedom issue in America, it should be freedom of expression, and freedom of trying to make living (if there is such a thing, forget the term now).

The freedom of expression, I believe goes back the pornography case brought in by smut dealer Larry Flint of Hustler Magazine.

He took the fight against the obscenity laws all the way to the US Supreme Court, where Hustler Magazine finally won, arguing that porno was art.

The US Supreme Court agreed, that the smut laws were a violation of freedom of expression.

Well, if porno is freedom of expression in America, upheld by the US Supreme Court, then I don't think TikTok has much to worry about being banned.

They still could ban TikTok, but that will go straight to the US Supreme, and they will argue like Larry Flint did, that still is against my gawd given rights to own guns and make dance video, bust a move.

There would be two avenues to defeat this in court, the freedom of expression argument from Larry Flint, and the freedom to make a living.

Unless the US government that banned TikTok can proved that is it security liability or threat, then they are being totally unreasonable in denying Americans their gawd given rights to own guns and TikTok that on TikTok, lol.

All those American politicians are lawyers. They know they do not have much of a case, because they got no proof or evidence of this security threat posed by TikTok, so actions against freedom of expression based on nothing probably will be thrown out of court.

That would be my guess.

This also sounds like the TikTok executive was subpoena to go testify at this US Congressional Subcommittee. This is stuff I saw out of those Hollywood movies.

So anything that executive says is under oath, and is evidence.

If he lies, then he is going to jail.

Should be interesting. They will not like what he has to say. LOL.

Truth hurts! Butt hurts, big time!

There is one word to describe the Anglo American attempts to forestall Chinese tech self sufficiency/advancement: Impotent.
Yes, it's too late too little.

BTW, this is why the U.S. is going down the tubes.

To cater Western reader's craving for "China declining" stories, Western MSM keeps churning out idiotic "reports", no matter how irrelevant the subject is.
