Looks like Liaoning has enough spaces to slide in 12 more J-15s.

No, it does not and I really don‘t understand why this enthusiasm „more is better“ comes from? The deck is already so much overcrowded that regular flight ops are no longer possible without moving several J-15s to allow landing.

Ass ich, where do you want to put another 12 more on deck?

I guess... the Second World War?

... where you could actually jam every single bit of available space on your flight deck (except the deck space for take-off operations) with aircrafts.

The era where having more of anything positive for the war effort is certainly much better than the opposite. More guns, more planes, more bombs, more torpedoes, more men - the better.

Personally, I like the idea as well - quantity is a quality of its own. But at today's age, having mere quantity can never be enough - it has to be complimented with excellent quality as well. Quantity alone could only ever serve as a desperate backup.

But that's just my personal observation.

The problem is that nowadays deck operations run a little different vs the days of WW2, turn around, equipping etc is a day and night difference. The QE class has its deficits but the thought they put into sortie rates is not unreasonable. Of course there's always still a caveat as to the exact mission the bulk of your deck fleet is to perform (A2A, strike, ASuW etc).

Just on that specific point, the very nature of cyclic ops doesn't necessitate the landing area to be clear when the boat conducts launches anyway.

By the time the launch cycles are complete and recoveries commence, those J-15s spotted on the runway and port side of the deck would've already been launched and the area now clear for landing.

Really the only bird that's out of place seems to be that helo sandwiched between the two launch J-15s forward amidships.
