The Sri Lanka situation is being used by the anti-China forces as caused by China due to debt trap bull crap they have been spewing ad nauseum, ad infinitum specifically mentioning the port situation as the prime example.
I've not seen anyone blame China for Sri Lanka, although I'm sure Indians probably are. It seems to be mostly blamed on the politicians and corruption, which is only partly true.
China knows the export strategy won't work forever, why do you think China is going dumpling mode on its navy? To stop US imperialism China has to show the world US military isn't the only umbrella. Russia already fired the first shot, everyone knows what's going to happen.
But China won't have a blue water navy with 5-6 carrer groups until early 2030s. Do you think that is the timeframe China will start projecting power overseas or sooner?
China is already a blue water navy. One data point says PLAN has sent 40 escort fleets to the Gulf of Aden. A second data point says Liaoning was escorted by 1 055 and 3 052D. How much blue is actually blue for a navy?
If China doesn't have a blue water navy neither does UK, Japan or France.
Cool. Lets forget the term blue water navy for a moment. I read some analysts say China wanted to wait until it had around 5-6 carrier groups to be able to comfortably project power overseas far from home (couldn't find the exact post but similar to this ). Perhaps leave 1-2 close to defend home, and send 3-4 strike groups to the conflict zone.

I thought you were hinting that China might be sending its navy possibly across the Atlantic in order to defend its interests abroad as a security umbrella. Is that what you meant? or was it only regionally?
