The Jimu-1 III (极目一号Ⅲ) aerostat has broken a world altitude record for atmospheric observation. It reached an altitude of 9032 meters, after having been released from Science Station Everest at an elevation of 4270 meters. The aerostat is being used as part of a comprehensive climate and water resource survey of the Tibet-Qinghai Plateau.
