On a positive (or negative depending on your POV), Russian Roulette is probably unpopular and a lot of stupid people won't be killing themselves.

The US is still playing Russian roulette by putting the revolver to the head of the US dollar’s status as the universal reserve currency, pulling the trigger, and seeing the brains get blown out this time or if it might take one or more pull of the trigger later.

it would be foolish for the ukrainians to go after him except out of spite. nothing positive he says about the russians will influence the chinese audience more in that direction than his death in the hands of the Ukraians. .

For a man who claimed to be a Chinese expert. The only thing he got it right is Xi doesn't trust the Western powers and believe in self-reliance. Ukrainian war has proven Xi is right again. The West can't be trusted.

That's because everything Xi has implemented at home has been to stifle free thought, not unleash it. He views the democratic world with such distrust. He hopes China will supplant them but with home-grown innovation and not a robust exchange of ideas and products. It is a self-centered world vision, one where ties are mainly zero-sum: you win, I lose.

In this context, if the West is embroiled in a dispute with Russia over Europe, then China wins. Becoming involved in foreigners' disputes makes no sense. Better to stay out of the fray, see who is likely to win, and then cut deals.

You gotta give the Russian MOD some credit for admitting a major organizational mistake relatively quickly. It took the US and friends alot longer to admit that they've mistakenly targeted civilians, sent weapons to the wrong people, or found no WMDs. Sometimes never.
