I respectfully disagree, after these western sanctions Russia's economy is pretty much done. Lots of Russian businesses are already opening up bank accounts with Chinese banks and trading in yuan. I think US and EU will sanction Russian gas before the war is over. Russia has no two feet to stand on, China must deal with it from a position of strength because that is the reality of the situation.
China always play Long Term. dont forget Russia has world largest natural resource. Minerals/Metals , Oil & Gas. China have now direct access to those reserves. time to increase the industrial might with Cheap material supply. China having very strong Relations with Russia.

Yeah. its good to have another major Aero engine firm. Motor Sich would have been Chinese if Ukraine government didn't interfere. China had plans to rebuild second unfinished AN-225 with Motor Sich engines in 2016. first delivery schedules in 2019. LOOL

Ukrainian economy completely finished. they will definitely go for China for rebuilding. as they are the largest trading partner of China. so this deal can still go through. lets see
Since NATO will not intervene, the Ukraine government that blocked the sale will no longer exist after this war, I can't see how this deal won't go through.

I think it will be a good idea to send a message to Russia that they have two choices; either sell China whatever engine technology it wants, or don't and China will catch up anyway through espionage/poaching/innovation/etc. Second choice might take longer, but end result is the same, which is that China will catch up to and surpass Russian engines. Russia can choose to cash out and speed up this process or not and watch its people starve. Not a hard decision to make I think.

China does not need help for motor sich on turboshaft. WZ-9G and WZ-10 are all doing great. They are better than their Russian counterpart of similar weight class. They should also be getting WZ-16 in the future. This is all they need for their major helicopter projects.

The big question for me is what is being used on L-15 right now. If they got just the 200 AI-222 from several years ago, they should be running out on it. Is L-15 using a domestic option right now? I really don't know.

There are areas where they can probably get Russian help on. Reactor for nuclear submarine is an obvious one. But the list is not as long as people think.

As I said, China has made a lot of progress in the past 10 years. Its indigenous options are not necessarily worse than Russian ones.

I know about WS-17, but I haven't seen anything conclusive that's what L-15 is using right now. Given the recent UAE export orders, it makes me wonder if they are still relying on AI-222.

Don't think so its possible after Russia-Ukraine conflict even if China wants Al-222 engines. China sold J-10C with domestic engines. it could be the pattern for future sales. i m sure L-15 now have domestic engines.

This guy is an EX-PLA officer & have pretty much good source related PLA developments & Engines. recently he made a Video about small engines of China & mentioned AL-.222 .. check this out

YAK-130 advance trainer jet is using the same engine as L-15. Russia (Salyut) is making their own AL-222 engines independently of Ukraine, so there should be no problem for L-15 to switch supply source from Ukraine to Russia.

In long term, later variants of L-15 can use Minshan engine when it is ready.
