Oh well ... the typical PDF discussion again is one.

A once IMO quite reliable member posted this yesterday:

And once again the shit is cooking all over: IMO this is a plain ridiculous claim since we haven't seen any J-10C with AL-31FN since mid/late 2019. It makes no sense and even lesser is a ToT likely.

But in order to not-ignore it, what do you think?

We will know soon enough, within the next few months, most of the visible details.

Unless by "technology transfer" they mean an engine maintenance facility like the Russians offered to Malaysia (?) I don't think so.
The AL-31FN engine would only make sense, I think, if WS-10 engine production is currently constrained for whatever reason.
Or maybe the Russians offered a better deal on the engines. I doubt it.

It smells like BS I agree. It might also piss off the Indians. There is precedent with the JF-17 engine deal but in that case a viable Chinese engine did not exist.

So, you won't exclude this?

The only way for this to be true is if PLAAF hand over second hand J-10C to PAF. It doesn’t make sense from a sustainability point of view because eventually they’ll need to switch to WS-10 anyway, which forces them to maintain another new engine type.

A once IMO quite reliable member posted this yesterday:

What's their source? And if they don't have one, why are you re-posting it?

Just the other day I heard (from an actual reliable source) that the PAF will be getting J-20s, but this analyst only quoted "a report" without specifying what his source was. I didn't repost it because it doesn't matter unless the source can be verified. There's no point in posting unverifiable reports and having people run in circles, especially if it's a big claim which requires greater burden of proof.

I won't comment on the rumour about the J-10C arriving with the AL-31 (IMO it won't..)

However this whole ToT story can be misleading.
The ToT that the PDF members think they *could* get and the ToT that the Russians *could* give them is almost certainly different.

And anyway, ToT is such an overused word that it has lost its original meaning. Are they going to get complete ToT, maintenance ToT (full/partial), assembly ToT, overhaul ToT, material ToT, parts ToT etc ?

To conclude, too much marketing. ToT as used in internet discussions can range from ToT for a single engine bolt and ToT for the complete engine.
