Coronavirus 2019-2020 thread (no unsubstantiated rumours!)

I'm about to pickup a guy coming back from France via Singapore on the 13rd this month. He is the nephew of my shareholder who I can hardly refuse though I'm reluctant to meet anybody coming from abroad. The guy is a Vietnamese oversea student in France. Now he wanna come back home but Vietnam has not open commercial international flight yet. So he chooses to fly to Cambodia and cross the border into Vietnam by land. I'm the only person who may coordinate his trip in Cambodia. So I may risk myself exposing to a potential virus carrier. So what I can do now is to virtually quarantine myself at least one week from all my family members and co-workers after contacting with this guy. There's no other choice for me. Wishing myself good luck!

I hope I am wrong too, however I am noticing a suspiciously large amount of wishful thinking in the media. Either this is organic (lol) or the elites are prepping the people to "live with it"

As for the vaccines, here is my roadmap towards "returning to normal":
1) manadatory vaccinations (booster every x months)
2) whatever the vaccine, it should have >75% prevention of death or severe cases (hospitalisation)
3) over the counter pill which would reduce chance of hospitalisation when taken after a person is tested positive for the virus. Should be cheap, easily accessible, with minimal side effects

If all of the above conditions are satisfied then we should be ok, unless an Omicron-level abomination variant appears but with a lot more lethality, which in that case we are fcked
Just get me a ladder to scale the Great Wall. I want in of China

@SteelBird bro do your country had any covid protocol, transit passenger is prohibited since Manila isn't a hub for major airlines. And foreigners are not allow to enter unless you are a Filipino or a dual passport holder.

Thank you brothers.

Since last month (Nov 15 if I remember correctly) our country has lift almost all restriction on international travelers as long as they're fully vaccinated. Unvaccinated travelers will be required to quarantine 14 days. When Omicron emerges our government banned travelers from 10 African countries but recently all the bans have been lift.

Another great news for "mRNA Superiority believers". I switch the name as some people is very sensitive to word "worshipper". :D

Almost 70 medics who attended a large Christmas party in southern Spain have since tested positive for Covid-19, authorities say.

Most of the 68 infected are doctors and nurses working in the intensive care unit at Málaga's regional hospital.

Health authorities said they were all at a party attended by about 170 people last Wednesday.

All guests returned negative antigen tests before the event but more than half are now isolating.

The infected staff were all fully vaccinated
and are showing no symptoms, health authorities said.

Summary: 70 infected out of 170 fully vaccinated people. That is 41%. In other words, 59% was protected.

Here is the share of vaccine types in Spain

Most probably some of those in the 59% not infected did not did not come into close enough contact with the super spreader.
Therefore less than 59% were protected.

Indeed. 170 people are a lot, not everyone passing by or sharing something with every others. I won't be surprised if the actual protection is lower than 50%.

Its too early to start saying that a vaccine works or not, more or less lethal etc

All we have is some hypotheses. Let's wait until the end of December until we start drawing conclusions on the Omicron variant
