Hong-Kong Protests

Gatekeeper was banned unfortunately. We've had a lot of news posts about how the new Hong Kongers have been treated over here. Personally, I recall seeing one playing an instrument on a city centre market street for money.
That's very disappointing. In this globalized economy, skills matter the most. Those Hong Kongers coming to London who have investment banking credentials for example would have their pockets padded and lives comfy and cushy

Maybe, but then again maybe not, as many banks, investment banks and funds have downsized their London offices and sent staff to Paris and Amsterdam because of Brexit, and there's already an oversupply of financial workers in the City.

I can only laugh. There's so much stuff in that article that shows how naïve these Hong Kongers are. Why are they going to look for jobs in Chinese restaurants? I thought the British have open arms for them? Where are those skills they believed China was so dependent on for them to deny and gift Great Britain with? Then they're reduced to working for blue-dot British Chinese small blue collar businesses when they had the luxury to avoid them in Hong Kong...? Hong Kongers have been spoiled experiencing being the majority for a British master trying to undermine China. Now they'll experience being a minority where their masters are the majority where they'll tell them how they truly feel about them.

I remember a guy told me "China was the sickman of Asia" during the taiwan strait crisis . Its 2021 , where are we now :). The point is that a weak China attracted more harrassment from people that thought they were superior. IMO, a strong China will help end Racism because people will have to accept that not one race/culture/ethnic grp represent the earth.

“There is a big divide among the Chinese community in Britain, into the ‘blue’ and ‘yellow’ camps,” said her husband Joseph. “The blues are those who defend the status quo and loyally support the Chinese government, whereas the ‘yellow’ camp refers to their opponents, those who want change.”
...
Much of the British Chinese business community, such as employers like Ms Chan’s, belong to the “blues”. Apart from being ‘difficult workers’ who may demand higher wages in British Chinese catering’s sweatshop economy, the new migrants from Hong Kong can also represent, in the eyes of their British Chinese employers, the new political ‘trouble’ that constantly seeks to rock the boat.
...
With the existing patronage and political alliances firmly embedded in the traditional Chinese community networks, new Hong Kong migrants, who identify themselves as Hongkongers, are always cautious. They are aware that many British Chinese groupings are in some ways an extension – or at least a shadow – of the powers back home.
Yikes. Not even one year in and they're starting to divide the community and bad mouth businesses. A lot of small restaurants have bad pay and labor practices, but that's a labor dispute/shitty boss situation and not politics.

Do they listen to what they say? Somehow small business owners running low profit small restaurants are "blues" and a nefarious "shadow" connected to "powers" back home??? Anyone with experience knows many small restaurant business owners barely scrap by and are not connected to anything "back home". If they were connected, then they wouldn't be stuck working in a low profit small restaurant.

Why would business owners want to hire employees who encourage the public to distrust them and their businesses? Their labor disputes have nothing to do with politics, it's just the brutal/sad reality of working for a low income low profit small business.

Because of the success of the Netflix series Squid Game, there was an article I read that said the poor conditions in South Korea that drove those characters to participate are closer to the truth than fiction. Then I saw one of those Asian anti-China YouTube channels mentioning the same things verbatim about what was going on in South Korean society but they replaced it with China instead. I didn't know what nationality was operating this channel but South Koreans are notorious for changing the races of figures in history like claiming a South Korean beat Hitler's master race athletes in the Olympics and not Jesse Owens. The TV show was criticized in South Korea because it gave the wrong image some wanted of South Korea.

Personally as a kid I remember what San Francisco's Chinatown was like when it was controlled by nefarious pro-Taiwan associations. This was the height of Triad organized crime organizations and where infamous Chinatown shootings took place where intimidation of the community was normal. Taiwanese know as much about democracy as Hong Kongers do.

Article seems like a total rehash of the typical VOA talking points, right down to the ridiculous PTSD claim.

The investment bankers aren’t the ones leaving HK, because all their money is connected to mainland. Even if they believe that CPC is against “Freedom and Democracy”, they donate 100 bucks to those shadowy crowdfunding campaigns and call it a day.

These people are full of crap. Somehow they don’t have freedom, but they have a lot of money and don’t want to give it up.
