@AndrewS bro the plunge in sales is mostly on legacy ICE vehicle, but those from EV skyrocketed, so in a way a perfect strategic shift for China EV policy transition to meet its target goals.

At its peak, the USSR economy was only half the size of the USA, so it was easy to bankrupt the USSR in an arms race.
In comparison, the Chinese economy today is significantly larger than the USA, if you use purchasing power parity which measures actual output of goods and services, rather than use the undervalued exchange rate
China is set for a balanced budget this year, and might actually end up as a budget surplus
In normal times, China runs a standard 3% budget deficit like many other developed countries
So China easily has economic firepower in reserve
In comparison, during COVID, the US budget deficit and debt exploded and the US doubled the supply of USD in circulation
So the result now is stagflation in the USA, with 1% growth + 5% inflation
Plus arguably a stock market bubble due to all the dollars being printed
