There are many rumors and gossips that never end up amounting to anything. The last one was only a few weeks ago, discussing on Chinese social media that a US sub was forced out of the water. Stuff like this is always pushed by the Jai Hind crowd, I hate seeing Chinese doing the same.

The guy I responded to said the islands were "annexed", and since you say the islands were Chinese to begin with then what could he have possibly meant? Probably he meant gaining control of them in some way that was not previously established to be the case. So, I have said wait for a more legitimate source, and for now it seems to only be social media and some Japanese program (of which I am unsure the authenticity). That's all I responded to, nothing more.

I am happy to see this in fact be true, even if it isn't a landing and solely amounts to excluding the Japanese and Co. from occupying the islands in the foreseeable future. Nothing would give me more joy. But if you are not suggesting that is what it is, then what are you suggesting?

If you are just suggesting that the Chinese rammed the Japanese, what does that have to do with my comment? I never denied that is a possibility, only the speculation now that China has "annexed" the island..

The actual ramming is only minor. Japan has reported that the Chinese coast guard has been patrolling the waters off Diaoyu Island in ever greater frequency. Last year, IIRC, they totaled 311 days of patrol.

Effective control of Diaoyu Island just means effective control of its neighboring waters. If Chinese fishermen can operate unimpeded in the area, then China has effective control of the island.

I like the part that it was China that called for Lithuania to pull its ambassador from China. That took away from Lithuania the perception they wanted to spin they were in control and didn't need China. They could have spun it that China was begging for improved ties that China needed. Now Lithuania needs assurances from the US of support because they feel like they're not in control. They said themselves that Lithuania had little relations with China so China threatening trade ties that don't exist does little. That should be it. But no, China turned it around against them and the one thing they had to stand out and spin in the world is gone and Lithuania looks like a useless part of the world. Yes Lithuanian allies spend money they don't have to show China just for a worthless international reputation of strength now reduced to nothing. Before it didn't cost them money because there were no fruitful ties to be lost. Now it's going to cost them money to salvage Lithuania's image.
I guess Lithuania will be at the “conference for democracies”.

This is a rare win for the US, having a small country leave a China economic forum (CEEC) to join an American one.

This is almost certainly the start of a trend, the size of that trend is what matters.

These "wins" are just soft power wins which actually do nothing other than to annoy China. Thats all

We will have a week of western propaganda about how "democracy will reform", "democracy will prevail over authoritarianism" etc and then the world will move on

What trend? Trend of talking big and doing nothing? I am sure that this kind of trend is the best that China wants the West to follow. What can damage China more, words or actions?

@Overbom bro HK economy is bigger than Lithuania and losing them is a big lost really? From what I seeing now is Wang Yi cleaning up the mess Kamala Harris had left both in Singapore and Vietnam, now that is a HUGE lost for the US BIG TIME and we compare that to Lithuania? I can't comprehend what WINNING is all about...LOL

Their significance in geopolitics is ZERO, what I had stated regarding Singapore and Vietnam carry more weight than that tiny Baltic state.

Sorry, it does much more damage than you are alluding too. Any loss like this is vital in many ways.

Juat for starters Lithuania “was” a key rail route on the BRI, they literally just opened a rail freight facility to support it.

It can use it’s influence around the Baltic Sea to support Washington, and it’s an admired little country that’s doing well for itself.

How's the 2 bazillion vaccines working out for you sir? The speech and the staged photo op get together was done months ago along with the usual high fatootin talk of vaccine diplomacy.

Let me know when your prose matches the actual reality.
