Oh dear. That Taliban 2.0 feels more of a Taliban 1.1..

Hopefully the new government will take a softer stance toward women rights. I cant see China openly supporting Afghanistan with such oppresive policies towards women rights
Nah, Afghanistan is a Muslim country with the overwhelming vast majority of it's people that subscribe to a more conservative form of Islam. The Taliban ain't making proclamations that are off base to what the majority of it's people want or clamor for.

Let Afghanistan achieve some modicum of economic stability and hopefully maybe even economic prosperity if all things work out then social progressive issues like the women in sports etc. maybe tabled for debate and acceptance that's if pushed and demanded by the people of Afghanistan.

We can't expect Afghanistan and it's current government to be all Gung ho for women's rights and gay rights like they are some f..ng western countries that have are economically well off and been politically and socially stable for eons. Not even the gulf state countries have such "progressive policies" and these are states that have some of the world's highest GDP per capita.

We have to respect and accept that what we see as equality or human rights are anathema and goes against some of the most fundamental cultural and religious core issues for countries like Afghanistan. Therefore, countries like China ought to deal with countries like Afghanistan as they are and not imagine or fashion them to what they ought or should become.

Better a taliban Afghanistan than whatever CIA fuckery that would have been the Islamic State Khorasan; it's like someone in the CIA read too much Tom Clancy and decided they would go Command and conquer: Generals GLA on the middle east/central asia.

Bloomberg seems to be a bit obsessed with Xi.

But worries are growing that Xi’s desire to stay in the country, a byproduct of China’s strategy to completely eliminate cases of Covid-19, could start having diplomatic consequences -- particularly if he avoids the G-20 meeting in Rome at the end of October and a UN climate summit right afterward
These are *western* worries. Xi can attend virtually these meetings. And lol at "avoids" the G20 and climate meetings. All these are window-dressings for the US containment strategies against China.

China will attend the meetings but the West shouldnt expect any compromises from China. If that leads to a climate catastrophe, then so be it. Would be a good test to see which country is better suited to handle natural disasters (hint: it isnt the US)

The closure of Chines borders serves Chinese national interests:
1) Prevents COVID infect travellers from causing new outbreaks in China.
2) Prevents CIA operatives from entering China since all entrants are under strict scrutiny, and the MSS now has the men and resources and AI tech to follow each and every foreign and suspicious entrant.
3) Encourages Chinese consumers to spend their money within China, enabling the Chinese economy to grow and deprives the Five Eyes and anglos and unfriendly nations of Chinese money.
