I wonder why we're seeing so many Mengshi vehicles in use nowadays, from self propelled howitzers to command vehicles to bridgelayers to fire rescue

Economies of scale.

With such large scale production, the unit costs gets increasingly cheaper.

Probably helped by government directive that publicly financed organisations should use the model if they need something in that class. Call it cross subsidisation between government departments where everyone benefits from lower cost and improved performance.

No, the wheel assembly looks completely different. Also, the first pictured IFV have a much more pronounced front section that would be impractical to be all added armour.

A new 8x8 assault gun perhaps? A very interesting geometry for the front. It might be a hydraulically actuated bow flap for amphibious operations.

Is this new IFV intended to replace or complement ZBD-05 just like USMC replacing tracked AAV with wheeled ACV?

I don't know for sure, although credible rumors have hinted that a tracked successor to the ZBD05 is in the works.

Electric drive system is more efficient but the problem I see right now is with the power density of batteries and the logistics of delivering energy to end users. Once we resolved both the issues we might see and greater shift towards full electric systems on military platforms. Hybrid is a stop gap that is likely to last for decades.

"Power" density is not an issue for batteries while "Energy" density is. In the foreseeable future, that problem can't be solved.
