No one who has seen a vulcan at an air show will ever forget it; the first time I saw one was at the age of 16 when my Dad took me to the Hurn air show at Bournemouth airport. Towards the end of the show we were starting to walk back to the car and when we were about a half mile from the display line the Vulcan started it's act: the manouver I remember most was when it flew down the display line slowly, turned away from us and climbed slowly and steeply; when it seemed it was about to stall in middair the pilots opened the throttles full and the roar was second only to the space shuttle for volume! At a half mile distance I couldn't hear a word my Dad was shouting at me from two feet away! Those four RR Olympus engines are similar to the four that powered concorde to Mach two and the four that push an Invincible class carrier around at 28 knots. If anyone out there gets a chance to see this amazing aircraft at an airshow, don't pass up the opportunity, you will not be disappointed!

Recently I saw a program on the military chanell about the top 10 bombers of all time..The B-52 was number one...Vulcan?? Did not make the list..
