Great documentary from CGTN single handedly Deng reverse the fortune of China from strait jacket ideologue into pragmatic and flexible ideology. Before Deng no country transition successfully from communism to mix economy. And He has no book to learn from just trial and error epitomize and his quote "Crossing the river by feeling the pebble"
Himself suffer personal tragedy under Mao but he is noble enough to acknowledge Mao's contribution and legacy and set aside personal reservation in order to keep the Chinese nation united. China is fortunate that he live long enough to guide the rebirth of China after CR

Deng Xiaoping understood the flaw in Marxist rigidity of assuming every problem from the lens of class-struggle. His analysis "seek truth from facts" is perhaps the most revolutionary idea in modern times and can be accredited to China's rise as a power. The combination of "visible hand of state" with the "invisible hand of the market" is also a result of Xiaoping thinking. Even though West seems to be open to ideas but ironically one can sense in their functioning a rigidity. Their refusal to admit the flaws in their democratic working. The strict adherence to procedures formulated centuries ago and opposition to ideas that a non-democratic system might not only work but may outperform them in future.

"Seek truth from facts" is actually a frequent saying from Mao. Deng continued to promote it after he took over.

The greatest saying from Deng Xiaoping IMO was "there is no glory in poverty" or something like that.

I follow the same approach in my personal life. Maybe money won't make me happy but at least I'll be able to afford a therapist and some pretty nice liquor to drown my sorrows.
