Rep.Gohmert isn't really the brightest bulb but in Texas his style and command of facts are the standards they look and yearn for in their God given politicians. Look no further than their current governor, their previous governor Rick Perry, their previous President George W. Bush etc..
I guess too much Hollywood, Religion and lack of basic scientific knowledge, mathematical grounding and logical thinking will do this to people… it just further shows either a failure of their political system (electing people who have no grasp of our physical reality) or a failure of their education system (producing graduates who have no grasp of our physical reality)…

I mean hell a 10 minute google search would have told him the answer to that question… and to add further he hasn’t considered at all the potential consequences, or it hasn’t even occurred to him, of what he is proposing which makes him “seem”, and probably actually is, even more stupid. It’s as if America fucking up half the world isn’t enough for him, he would like to drag the whole world along for the most ridiculous solution possible to a problem that can be delayed or remedied, although slowly, as long as the American gov is actually willing to be less selfish for once, before we find an actual solution… and frankly describing him as a lightbulb, even for colloquialism’s sake, is a insult to the inventor, the engineers building the things and the very tungsten that makes up the filament

China has Hong Kong already. Why pander to yet another financial market?
It just needs to grow the Shanghai market to stand on its own in the world finance market. Already largest in its own internal market.

UK failed big time with leaving the EU. Most financial services left to Amsterdam.
The writing is on the wall in regards to increased globalization. It's like they looked at the last 50 years and went into denial.

Its not a choice for either London or HK/Shanghai.

IMO London could serve as a financial center servicing western world. The time, geography, language is suitable for this role.

Ofc the very big investors already go to HK, but for big, medium and small investors (Europeans), London would be perfect.

With the UK leaving the EU, this provides a big opening for China to extract concessions. This means that UK must break up with its US' puppet status.

Anyway, thats an interesting development. Still not sure if this is just a smokescreen. We will see

Good opportunity for driving a wedge though

Yes the Western media upset that Chinese media reporting on the US is the same way they report on such things in China. What a fragile ego.

As far as I can remember, Chinese media used to be mostly minding only their own business and respond only to criticism or attack against it in a diplomatic manner.

It's only in recent times they have begun to fight back in the barefaced manner it is attacked, with the tempo really picking up during the Trump years mostly in response to the attacks of the administration's cohorts which was with the total absence of diplomacy (a good example of which is that of Pompeo's) or whatever bipartisan sh..ts against China the politicians on Capitol Hill would come out with.

There is no the rest of the world. Just the US and its lapdogs. Japan is wishful thinking that the whole world is ganging up against China.
