Beijing thinks like the Democrats. Both see some romanticized outcome that all will see their way and it never turns out that way. I don't how much of this is true but recently the Western media was mocking how Xi wants to portray a more "lovable" image of China. If true, that's a joke. Western culture does at all see Chinese as being lovable. The Democrats always have some storybook ending to everything they want to do and Republicans only see them as child molesters. There's a disconnect with reality there.
I guess you could say that China is trying to play up its image as a benevolent force as a bit of a way to buy enough time and also to distract the USA from the very real strength that China has right now. Considering all the projects and deals that China is running in on the side, I would say that with the USA dollar tanking and all the hacks and disasters happening in the USA right now, I would think that China is and and is succeeding in giving the impression to the world that China is not strong enough to confront the west in battle. This loveable image of China is a ruse and it is one that most people fall for since most of the USA are too busy dealing with other issues then uniting against China along with most of the world not even considering a United front against China (heck Africa and South America at large is staying right out of it, while Europe is too busy with its own internal issues to focus on actually getting ready for a real fight, as see in its exchanges with Russia). And also to consider the amount of time being wasted in the whole Middle East, Russia and all other issues that is bogging the government down right now (the spy problem is the most recent), at this point, I reckon it would be in China’s best interest in letting the dramas play out in the USA and only show is truly terrifying and ruthless side when the nation has weakened itself enough and when the world still focussed on the USA. Right now, Japan as a nation has no resemblance to the nation it was during WW2 while China still has those memories relatively fresh and is getting more and more advanced. When China is ready and the enemy is weak enough, it will be too late and I believe that both Taiwan and Japan will be the first to feel China’s wrath given that neither nation has really dealt with covid like China has (a tall tale sign that these nations has weak leadership)

also something to note is that the covid is striking all of China’s enemies with a great deal of pain so in a sense I can understand why the west want use China as a scape goat but this however shows the true weakness of a nation and will benefit China in the long run whether they like it or not. In a sense, ‘hide ones strength and bides ones time’ is still at play, only slightly less so in that China is still willing to trying to present a nice image but now is showing hints on what they can really do. And this is something that scares the USA to no end since while the USA loves to come up with assessments on China’s capabilities, they (due to losing most of their CIA assets in China) can never get a full picture of China actual might.

False. Pre-dismantle of the CIA intelligence network in China, they had penetrated the CPC's highest level.

If you go back in time and read western analysis pre~2013 you would often see, "sources close to Hu", or "sources close to Jiang". They entered different organisations of the CPC, CMC, State Council etc.

All levels of China's agencies, oranisations, governments, NGOs were infiltrated by the CIA

Good thing that the Iranian Intelligence Agency tipped off the Chinese about a critical flaw of CIA's communications system which helped the Chinese dismantle these spy-networks
CIA network has been dismantled since 2010 in China, and CIA operatives have been identified by China's agents in Africa and Europe since 2013.
Killing C.I.A. Informants, China Crippled U.S. Spying Operations

government systematically dismantled C.I.A. spying operations in the country starting in 2010, killing or imprisoning more than a dozen sources over two years and crippling intelligence gathering there for years afterward.

Current and former American officials described the intelligence breach as one of the worst in decades. It set off a scramble in Washington’s intelligence and law enforcement agencies to contain the fallout, but investigators were bitterly divided over the cause. Some were convinced that a mole within the C.I.A. had betrayed the United States. Others believed that the Chinese had hacked the covert system the C.I.A. used to communicate with its foreign sources. Years later, that debate remains unresolved.

A USAF C-17 carrying 750 thousand COVID vaccines (type unknown but presumably AZ) and senators Tammy Duckworth, Dan Sullivan and Chris Coons has arrived at Taipei Songshan Airport at 7:19 AM 6/6 Taipei time. This marks a landmark event because this is the first time a USAF aircraft has officially landed in Taiwan since the end of the Vietnam war.

According to Taiwanese media, this event also marks a great victory for both the U.S. and Taiwan and a "monumental defeat" for China since not only has the C-17 successfully evaded PLAAF surveillance by arriving during bad weather and successfully fooling PLAAF surveillance via C-12 decoys, "thus successfully exposing the inferior capabilities of the PLAAF", it also marks a "great diplomatic humiliation" for China since China has failed to stop "the US military returning to Taiwan" which "Chinese authorities have vowed to stop such an event from happening".

btw this screenshot is also circulating heavily on Taiwanese media (and Taiwanese media are having a field day about it), for those who cant read mandarin its basically Chinese people are furious at the "incompetent Chinese government" for letting such a "humiliating event" take place.

Singapore approves Sinovac vaccine, partly because it has fewer side effects than the mRNA vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna,

There are 2000 people out of approx 1.8million people in Singapore who had a severe allergic reaction to mRNA vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna. That works out as 1 in 900 people.

Hong Kong data shows that BioNTech has a lot more side effects than Sinovac. Article below.

No Side Effects
Sinovac: 79.5% (only 1 in 5 people experience side effects)
BioNTech: 50.4% (half of people experience side effects)

The straits times article is disappointing again. Prof teo talks down sinovac and used the 50% efficacy figure again from the Brazil but did not point out the relevant details in that study. Such as those involved were health workers and much more likely to be exposed to virus.

He also blamed sinovac for not releasing data themselves when it's clear sinovac has left that to the individual countries to do the studies.

Very biased report

So you want Beijing to prevent US vaccines from reaching TW? Yeah, that will play out real well.

Last I checked, Taiwan has a population of 24 million. 750k vaccines represents only 3% of the population, and that's only for one dose. Let's see how many vaccines the US will keep sending to TW.

Since you are in the coronavirus thread, let me make some corrections for you:
Wow the standards for a victory has certainly down. So simply flying vaccines (faulty and dangerous might I add) into Taiwan is a big win, this is certainly going add the number of people killed by faulty vaccines. The Taiwanese government must seriously lost their marbles at this point because they seem to equate trolling with winning. If Taiwan is really in a strong position compared to China, they wouldn’t even bother mentioning this news at all and really taking care of the people comes first, none of the saner rattling matters because regardless of what the Taiwan government does at this point, isn’t going to affect China’s bottom line whatsoever. The fact that the USA is only trying to help in the smallest possible way shows just how little damn they really give for Taiwan and ultimately the leader herself should get a real reality check because she hasn’t done anything to address the fact that business is starting to leave Taiwan right now
