If there is no ground component, I think it's perfectly fine to be not called a parade.

Assuming it is only aircraft involved, the correct term would be "flyover," which is perfectly reasonable.
A parade would be army men, artillery, missiles, marching on ground, wth flyover in the skies.

Shouldnt these planes normally be accompanied by fighter jets? It is quite strange to have so many transport planes travelling unescorted

1) Unless China is picking a fight with Malaysia then no fighter escort is necessary like in the case with Japan/Taiwan.
2) You need multiple mid-air refueling to support flights this far. Quantity of refuelers is one of the weaknesses with PLAAF.
