Blood keeps China together. China has been through dynasties, war-torn eras regulated by foreigners, a communist country, and a country with a unique system throughout the centuries and what kept it together was blood and DNA. Socialism is what made China like North Korea for a few decades; its own system makes it great today.
I just wanna narrowly quote your post -- what you said is not wrong.
But what makes China so successful today is the existence of the One-Party ruling, the Communist Party Of China. Without CPC at the helm steering the nation, I don't believe we gonna see a China of her current shape... perhaps just somewhat better than India today, but won't be as good as the People's Republic of China!!!
“In 1949 the newly established People's Republic of China was the POOREST country in the world with a GDP of $439 per head compared with $619 in India and $852 in Africa” — ANGUS MADDISON 2001, page 264
And CHINA has GDP Nominal #2 since 2010 and GDP PPP #1 as of 2014!
NOTE:
China had the HIGHEST ever share of world GDP in 1820 at 33%; down to 17.1% in 1870 AFTER the
TWO Opium Wars (1839–1842 & 1856–1860) and establishment of
62 "TREATY PORTS" (1841-1941) under gunboat diplomacy… then kept on shrinking over decades to reach
the LOWEST share of 4.6% in 1950, thus above figure as POOREST country, as found out in research works of Angus Maddison, a distinguished British economist specializing in quantitative macro economic history, incl. measurement & analysis of economic growth and development.

The West keep on pushing the many political parties to the rest of world under the guise of "democracy" because in many parties situation, the deal is easier and cheaper to coopt the targeted nation, when one party is asking too high the price or refuses to cooperate, the deal can be done and even at cheaper cost with the other rival party when they come into power, at the end to the detriment of the target nation.
In the case of China, what the West want is to have at least party A and party B, and the more is merrier, better... for being more chaotic, more corrupt

if ruling party A refuses to cooperate, then the West can negotiate with opposition party B and support them to gain power, at the end what the West want is achievable, but the nation of China will suffer. I see countless examples of these practices all over the world incl. in the country where I live.
That's WHY the Communist Party of China or CPC -- btw I prefer CPC than the other term: CCP or Chinese Communist Party, the emphasis differs slightly between the two, CPC on China; CCP on the Communist Party, in my understanding -- is a miraculous gift to the nation of China after all the bitterness and suffering within the last 100 years or so experienced by that nation due to mainly IMPERIALISM!! Otherwise my grandparents would have not needed to be migrants, just like many other diasporas...
Just to emphasize the importance and great contributions of the leaderships of the Communist Party of China to the achievements of China today and in steering that oldest continuous civilization to realize her dream!
Btw, I do enjoy the quality and informative idea exchanges among all of you, I also learn from the idea exchanges... but please refrain from any personal attack.
