France and Germany have taken steps to acknowledge their role in allowing or perpetuating genocides in Africa during and after the era of European colonization thereof. They do so at a time when China is making increasingly bold and profitable overtures on the continent, and hope to prevent their former colonies from falling into Beijing's orbit.
Hold up there. So they're only apologizing because they're worried Beijing will become more influential and erase their influence on their former colonies? Without China they wouldn't have apologized? So it's like apologizing to make sure they can still hold sway and have authority over their former colonies.

And IMO this line is very important. It indicates the next plan! I think China may not overly rely on the Europe ITER's int'l cooperation to realize its nuclear fusion energy station (or whatever the term). Perhaps some members here who have more info may add up.

Easy for Germany to apologise for their colonial past and to pay reparations. They were late to the game and didn't hold it for long. Plus there's the holocaust guilt.
The UK or France have never apologised, let alone recognise it as a genocide or pay reparations. In fact to this day France are continuing with a form of fiscal colonialism with their west and central African currency control.
Imagine the outcry if China today announced that east Africa would have a new currency controlled by China and pegged to the Yuan.

West African franc is a French post colonial influence device and no one decries it. Totally acceptable to Westerners.

But what makes China so successful today is the existence of the One-Party ruling, the Communist Party Of China. Without CPC at the helm steering the nation, I don't believe we gonna see a China of her current shape... perhaps just somewhat better than India today, but won't be as good as the People's Republic of China!!!

The West keep on pushing the many political parties to the rest of world under the guise of "democracy" because in many parties situation, the deal is easier and cheaper to coopt the targeted nation, when one party is asking too high the price or refuses to cooperate, the deal can be done and even at cheaper cost with the other rival party when they come into power, at the end to the detriment of the target nation.
In the case of China, what the West want is to have at least party A and party B, and the more is merrier, better... for being more chaotic, more corrupt
if ruling party A refuses to cooperate, then the West can negotiate with opposition party B and support them to gain power, at the end what the West want is achievable, but the nation of China will suffer. I see countless examples of these practices all over the world incl. in the country where I live.That's WHY the Communist Party of China or CPC -- btw I prefer CPC than the other term: CCP or Chinese Communist Party, the emphasis differs slightly between the two, CPC on China; CCP on the Communist Party, in my understanding -- is a miraculous gift to the nation of China after all the bitterness and suffering within the last 100 years or so experienced by that nation due to mainly IMPERIALISM!! Otherwise my grandparents would have not needed to be migrants, just like many other diasporas...
Just to emphasize the importance and great contributions of the leaderships of the Communist Party of China to the achievements of China today and in steering that oldest continuous civilization to realize her dream!
